Title: Maybe the president is named after a saint
Post by: blane on February 17, 2010, 03:33:24 PM
Barach Obama is the president of the United States. I thought that his first name was not that of one of the saints. But I found something at a Catholic web site. The following is one of the ancient saints.

St. Berach
Feastday: February 15
6th century

Irish abbot and nephew of St. Freoch. He was raised by his uncle and became a disciple of St. Kevin. Berach, who is sometimes called Barachias or Berachius, founded an abbey at Clusin-Coirpte, in Connaught, Ireland. He is the patron saint of Kilbarry, County Dublin.

Hello Blane,

If so, I could imagine St. Berach rolling over and uncomfortable in his grave.

lol, I would think he would be also.

The truth is that Berach is an Irish name derived from the Gaelic word biorach meaning "sharp" whereas Barak is Arabic for 'lightning'. Barak Obama was named after his father, not anyone else.
