by Staff September 30, 2009 WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- October 1 marks the beginning of Christian Higher Education Month as well as more than 25 years of World Vision dedicating this day as an organization-wide time of prayer and supplication. The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is proud to partner with World Vision and students at CCCU institutions as they fight to end extreme poverty and injustice. This year, the CCCU and World Vision are encouraging students on CCCU campuses to participate in the Day of Prayer and Action. Along with praying together, many students will contact elected leaders to let them know that supporting those suffering from extreme poverty and injustice is a top priority. "The passion for social justice on CCCU campuses is palpable and present in many facets. Activism through engagement is growing and thriving and the CCCU is proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with World Vision, an organization who is focused on showing the love of God through word and deed. It was three students from a CCCU campus who began Acting on AIDS and it will be many more students who start new initiatives; we invite students at CCCU campuses to get involved. in the political process and find ways to curb the tides of injustice in our world," said CCCU President Paul R. Corts. In addition to the Day of Prayer, October 1 marks the introduction of the World Vision ACT:s college activism network. Formerly Acting on AIDS, ACT:S is a movement of college students committed to exploring what our faith says about poverty and injustice, using creative activism to bring issues to life and change hearts on campus, and using our voices to advocate our elected leaders and communities to help end poverty, injustice, and human suffering. This year, World Vision ACT:s will pray and advocate combating four critical injustices: Global hunger; HIV and AIDS; Child slavery and trafficking; Malaria. "College students today are passionate and influential. World Vision believes it is essential to engage with Christian college students in using their voices and energy to speak out and take action on behalf of the poor and suffering. Our partnership with the CCCU both past and future is a key part in our engagement with the future generation of the church," said Richard Stearns, president of World Vision. The CCCU has been a proud partner with Acting on AIDS and continues to encourage and support World Vision ACT:s. Learn more at www.worldvisionacts.org.
