If true, this is a major strategic error that will have serious consequences for our allies in Europe and for us. Quoting a U.S. source, the Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza says the Obama administration has decided against building a missile shield to protect Poland and the Czech Republic. The reason? Russian opposition. Now, if we want to build a defense system for friends in Europe, we'll have to place it in the Balkans, Israel or somewhere else. That is, if Russia approves. This is a stark reversal of past policy and reneges on promises made by the current administration. Worse, it shows weakness. We got into a staredown with the Russian bear and we blinked. ... We've just weakened America's standing in a critical region of the world -- Eastern Europe -- and let our allies down. We've made them vulnerable, in ways that only we could, to Russia's growing military menace. Polish and Czech friends who had relied on us to stand firm and keep our word no doubt feel betrayed. This diminishes our global influence. What smallish country will now take our word at face value when we promise to protect them? ... Given the threat to millions of American lives -- not to mention millions of our allies -- reducing missile defense is both dangerous and irresponsible." --Investor's Business Daily UPRIGHT "Those who are pushing for legal action against CIA agents may talk about 'upholding the law' but they are doing no such thing. Neither the Constitution of the United States nor the Geneva Convention gives rights to terrorists who operate outside the law. There was a time when everybody understood this. German soldiers who put on American military uniforms, in order to infiltrate American lines during the Battle of the Bulge were simply lined up against a wall and shot -- and nobody wrung their hands over it. Nor did the U.S. Army try to conceal what they had done. The executions were filmed and the film has been shown on the History Channel." --economist Thomas Sowell "History does not allow for controlled experiments, so there is no way of knowing if innocent Americans would in fact have been killed in terrorist attacks had the CIA treated KSM with TLC, as now seems to be U.S. policy under the Obama administration. Indeed, a paradox of antiterror efforts is that their success tends to undermine them. As there has not been a major attack in the U.S. in almost eight years, it seems at least plausible to claim that 9/11 was a one-off and that the 'war on terror' that followed was an overreaction." --Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto "Edward Moore Kennedy, whose memory was endlessly praised in the mainstream media over the weekend, conspired with our Cold War enemy, the Soviet Union, against the interests of the United States Government. The effort was to thwart the national security goals being championed by the President of the United States, Ronald Reagan.... What is not generally known is that Kennedy collaborated with the Soviets well before Reagan was elected, and had a direct hand in crafting the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. As a result of his efforts -- which appear in retrospect to have been crafted to prevent detection of his seditious activities -- the FBI was prevented from accessing critical intelligence that could have warned of 9-11." --columnist James Simpson "If that had been your daughter, or my daughter, that he left to drown, how much torment and pain would we have suffered through the years as we watched this guy giving noble speeches for decades, and even having the temerity to run for president? All the contrived rhetoric since then about him having compassion for the little guy is nothing more than the liberal left in constant pursuit of a decent legacy for an unprincipled and pathetic excuse for a human being. Perhaps now, Mary Jo can rest in peace." --columnist Bob Weir "President Obama has previously told us that questions about life were 'above his pay grade.' He has now pivoted to claim that his health care reform is a matter of life and death. If he is now going to invoke religious authority, his opponents are entitled to recall not only that Barack Obama has a perfect pro-abortion voting record, but also that just a few years ago he spearheaded opposition to legislation that would have simply required that an infant who accidentally survived an abortion be given medical attention." --columnist Mona Charen Title: The Patriot Post Chronicle 9-35 Post by: nChrist on September 02, 2009, 08:55:38 PM ____________________________ The Patriot Post Chronicle 9-35 From The Federalist Patriot Free Email Subscription (http://link.patriotpost.us/?136-160-160-217154-660) ____________________________ INSIGHT "He is the richest man in the esteem of the world who has gotten most. He is the richest man in the esteem of heaven who has given most." --English preacher Frederick Brotherton Meyer (1847-1929) "Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent." --Scottish philosopher Adam Smith (1723-1790) "It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies." --British novelist C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) "The timid civilized world has found nothing with which to oppose the onslaught of a sudden revival of barefaced barbarity, other than concessions and smiles." --Russian novelist and historian Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn (1918-2008 ) "You raise your voice when you should reinforce your argument." --English author Dr. Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) DEZINFORMATSIA Thanks for clearing that up: "Barack is now the last [Kennedy] brother. ... Ted Kennedy, last year, basically designated [Barack Obama] the new brother and I don't mean that in an ethnic sense or a black sense. I mean a brother of the Kennedy tradition. And I think he's the new brother, not that last brother." --MSNBC's Chris Matthews From a parallel universe: "We sorely miss Kennedy's moral clarity. He believed our nation has the responsibility to ensure that every American has the right to affordable health care. Perhaps his life as an eternal prince taught him that happiness and salvation lie in sacrificing self-interest for the greater good." --Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson Anti-hero is more like it: "In a sense he was the classic American hero, the imperfect man who was sorely tested and yet in that testing found a way to overcome personal flaws and go on to accomplish great things. ... Ted Kennedy made a difference." --CBS's Bob Schieffer If by "strong" she means "nominal": "Kennedy's strong Catholicism coexisted with his commitment to preserving a woman's right to choose, and is one more in a long list of reasons why he will be missed as the health-care-reform battle crescendos this fall. ...The anti-reform movement is gearing up to make abortion the next big donnybrook." --Newsweek's Eleanor Clift Natterings from a vacuous drone: "Opponents of Obama's 'public plan option' whine about government intervention in the private sector, though they were conspicuously silent when taxpayers had to bail out Wall Street. Health insurance companies and other critics are pouring millions into defeating the proposed legislation. They are disseminating falsehoods and using fear tactics to scare constituents. Lawmakers -- our elected public servants -- have a moral duty to help the 47 million Americans who have no insurance." --White House press corps member Helen Thomas (We have opposed big government all along.) Non Compos Mentis: "I like making liberals shoot guns -- I just don't think we should be allowed to bring them home. It's like I mean you go to the carnival you know, like the roller coasters -- it's fun. But that doesn't mean you get one to come home with. Doesn't mean you get to do your own home roller coaster -- just leave it there, it's a game." --MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Newspulper Headlines: What Would We Do Without Experts?: "Experts: Media Today Would Demand Chappaquiddick Answers" --CNN.com You Call This Fair and Balanced?: "Aggressive Fox Bites 2 People, Steals Sweater" --Daily Progress (Charlottesville, VA) We Blame Global Warming: "Astrophysicists Puzzle Over Planet That's Too Close to Its Sun" --Los Angeles Times 'I Don't Know, Dude, but Why Take Any Chances?': "Could Smoking Pot Cut Risk of Head, Neck Cancer?" --Reuters Everything Seemingly Is Spinning Out of Control: "Downturn Dims Prospects Even at Top Law Schools" --The New York Times News You Can Use: "Occidental College Offers Course in Stupidity" --Puffington Host Bottom Stories of the Day: "Even Higher Taxes Coming for Californians" --Los Angeles Times ++ "Few Tickets Sold for Clinton CNE Speech" --Globe and Mail (Toronto) (Thanks to The Wall Street Journal's James Taranto) THE DEMO-GOGUES The essence of ObamaCare: "We have a problem in America and it's called the private insurance industry." --Sen. Harry Reid (Commie-NV) Redefining compassion: "These are all fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation: that is, that we look out for one another; that is, I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper. And in the wealthiest nation in the world right now, we are neglecting to live up to that call." --Barack Obama using government as the be all and end all in "compassion" Trouble in paradise: "[Blue Dog Democrats] just want to cause trouble. They're for the most part, I hate to say, brain dead, but they're just looking to raise money from insurance companies and promote a right-wing agenda that is not really very useful in this whole process." --Rep. Fortney "Pete" Stark (D-CA) That's deep: "The greatest expectations were placed upon Ted Kennedy's shoulders because of who he was, but he surpassed them all because of who he became." --Barack Obama Off the deep end: "It was just mentioned to me by our esteemed speaker, 'Did anyone say anything about the Cuban health system?' And let me tell you before you say, 'Oh, it's communist,' you need to [go] down there and see what Fidel Castro put in place. ... Now, you can think whatever you want to about Fidel Castro but he was one of the brightest leaders I have ever met. ... And, you know, the Cuban revolution that kicked out the wealthy, Che Guevara did that -- and then after they took over they went out among the population to find someone who could lead this new nation, and they found.... Well, just leave it there. Ha-ha! An attorney by the name of Fidel Castro." --Rep. Diane Watson (Commie-CA) The end is near: "Make no mistake: catastrophic climate change represents a threat to human security, global stability, and -- yes -- even to American national security." --Sen. John Kerry, who by the way served in Vietnam Title: The Patriot Post Chronicle 9-35 Post by: nChrist on September 02, 2009, 08:56:28 PM ____________________________ The Patriot Post Chronicle 9-35 From The Federalist Patriot Free Email Subscription (http://link.patriotpost.us/?136-160-160-217154-660) ____________________________ VILLAGE IDIOTS Fear this: "You need to back these congressmen and let them know you're not going to let them be steamrollered by a bunch of people who have been frightened. Don't let anybody tell you that President Obama wants to ration health care. We are rationing health care in America. I'm not a very good politician any more; I just say what I think. But I have been waiting for this for 40 years ... to recreate the American dream." --Bill Clinton Cat out of the bag: "We need to pass a bill this year. Doing nothing is not only the worst thing we can do for the economy, it's the worst thing we can do for the country. It's also the worst thing we can do for the Democrats." --Bill Clinton Prophet of doom: "[This country has] a moral duty to pass health care reform. This year." --Algore Keen Sense of the Obvious: "Here is why tort reform is not in the bill. When you go to pass a really enormous bill like that the more stuff you put in, the more enemies you make, right? And the reason why tort reform is not in the bill is because the people who wrote it did not want to take on the trial lawyers in addition to everybody else they were taking on, and that is the plain and simple truth." --former DNC Chairman Howard Dean Wrong victim: "Both a plane crash in Massachusetts in 1964 and the ugly automobile accident on Chappaquiddick Island in 1969 almost cost [Ted Kennedy] his life." --Kennedy sycophant Ted Sorensen, who apparently missed the fact that Kennedy's passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, did lose her life. Indeed, Kennedy survived her by more than 40 years. Wind beneath his wings: "Of course Barack Obama had the wings of hope and the winds of possibility behind him, but Ted Kennedy was an awful powerful gust of wind that gave him a necessary lift." --Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson ("Gust of wind"? You got that right!) SHORT CUTS "Under Obamacare, the details of your life would be shared like a joint and a hooker in the Democrat caucus." --Rush Limbaugh "It is beginning to look as if the various fascists, racists and astroturfers who have been showing up at town halls may have stopped Obama from taking his next step in destroying America. But Obama and his cronies are like those creatures in scary movies; just when you think they're dead and buried, they reach a hand up from the grave and grab someone's ankle." --columnist Burt Prelutsky "Ted Kennedy's friends laughingly recalled Friday the time N.Y. Daily News photographers caught him making love to a woman on a boat on the Riviera. The opposition loved it. Republicans saw the photos and thought he'd changed his position on offshore drilling." --comedian Argus Hamilton "The new 'High Value Interrogation Group' President Obama is setting up will be forbidden to use even mild coercive tactics such as playing loud music or sleep deprivation. I have doubts about how effective an interrogation unit that treats terrorists with hugs will be." --columnist Jack Kelly ***** Veritas vos Liberabit -- Semper Vigilo, Fortis, Paratus, et Fidelis!
