Title: To all Christians globally."please read this"
Post by: specs on August 31, 2009, 04:22:56 PM
A few days ago I received an e-mail from Christian friends in 'South Africa' concerning a disturbing site on Facebook called "* Jesus Christ this e-mail then was running a petition and when it had gathered enough signatures to present this to the owners of Facebook to remove this site which in its defense has said 'Freedom of speech', but as Christians if we unite and this is why I'm writing here, if we unite as one "love" conquers all then I believe these misled individuals cannot hide behind 'Freedom of Speech', my first reaction was one of anger, but I'm no more on milk but solid food concerning Gods word, as other religions have taken the aggressive route we as Christians know 'LOVE' conquers all.

P.S. Here I'm asking the Christianunite.com developers to help set up a petition along similar lines, and once all signatures "around the world", have been collected then it can be presented to 'Facebook'

I understand your concern. Facebook is really a pretty nice place compared to some of the other social type places. In fact, many Christians and members of my own family have pages there. It's really sad that some people feel the need to post filth. I'm almost sure that I read several Christian news articles where pressure is being put on Facebook to clean some things up. I would hope that they realize that most of their users don't want to see something like that. It isn't listed as a Christian site, but many Christians do use it.

I don't know what legal challenges a place like Facebook would have in keeping it clean. I just know that we don't have any legal problems here, probably because of our strict rules one has to agree to first in getting an account. Typically, "Free Speech" is an excuse, just as you mentioned. Facebook is privately owned, so they can make any rules they want to.

Love In Christ,
Tom
