Accoring to the clergy, namely Father Tim of IrishCentral.com it is.

Personally I believe that Facebook is an amazing invention that helps keeping in touch with friends and family much easier.

Hello DBerman,

Welcome to Christians Unite forums.

I think that you need to reread the article. This Tim person does not even indicate that Facebook or Myspace either one are satan nor does he indicate that they are evil. He explicitly states that these systems are simply "tools in the hands of people" and that it is the people behind the tools that are the problem. It is apparent that you read the title of the article and ignored the overall content and idea of the entire article which is about the media doing what you did with first post here which is the taking a few words said by some archbishop and twisting them into something entirely different than was intended.

Hello DBerman,

WELCOME!

I had to recently ask what these things are, and I still only have a vague understanding of what they are and why people use them. I do remember that one or both were listed as being possibly dangerous, a place to get a virus or trojan on your computer. I wasn't curious enough to push the button that would ignore the security advisory, so I have no personal knowledge of either of them. I do know that many good and/or Christian organizations and individuals have pages on Facebook, MySpace and other social networking type sites, but the same is true for the opposite side of the coin.

I think these might be like YouTube in that they have a mixture of good and bad. We had to stop allowing YouTube links on the forum because it's almost impossible to avoid the bad there. I do have personal experience in getting hit with the bad in trying to use YouTube. If you use these places, you might or might not be able to avoid the bad while you're there. By this, I'm talking about links and advertising that I wouldn't want my children and grandchildren on. This is at least the way that I understand this. As an example, I know that the American Family Association and many other completely clean and Christian organizations have Facebook pages. Again, I don't have any personal experience with any of these social networking sites.

A forum is also a social networking type of place, and I can tell you that a lot of time and energy goes into keeping Christians Unite a safe and family friendly place to use - including children. If something bad or inappropriate is posted here, it's removed pretty quickly - many times within minutes. We obviously can't guarantee that the forum is clean and safe 24/7, but we sure do try hard to keep it that way. Let me put it this way:  I have no problem or concern in recommending Christians Unite to friends and family - including children.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy Christians Unite.

Love In Christ,
Tom
