Title: Classic, simple backpacks Post by: Tibby on January 20, 2004, 10:26:31 PM You know, there is this backpack I’ve had since 7th grade. It is black canvas with a brown leather bottom. A white Jansport logo on the top center, and a pocket right under it. You know the type I’m talking about, you’ve seen them, and most of you have owned them at some time or another.
I have carried books, Olympic weights, clothing, work out gear, 2 gi’s, blankets, pets, CD players, radio’s, guitar gear, computer gear, and many other things. The Back pack as been searched at airports, youth conferences, concerts, rallies, gigs, clubs, LAN games, Mexico, and school on several occasions. Well, entering the second half of its second year, I think it is time to retire her. So, I went to go backpack shopping. I found luggage bags, and satchels, and backpacks with stake board wheels on it, and backpacks with bungee chords on them, and backpacks with large metal holes to put the wire of a CD or MP3 player thru, backpacks with secret pocket, backpacks with cell phone pouches, and all kinds of fun stuff like that. I when to school supplies, then luggage, then sporting goods, and not a single one of the classic Jansports. Defeated, I stomped to the front with a satchel. You know, classic Jansports are like chuck Taylors (of which I have 4 pairs), they are part of the “Modern vintage” of today. You can’t just sport selling them! I can’t believe they no longer sell classic, simple backpacks! Title: Re:Classic, simple backpacks Post by: Whitehorse on January 20, 2004, 11:05:37 PM Ture-Jansports are famous for their simplicity. I recommend getting it through a gear company by catalog. Puhleaseeeeeee check Sierra trading Post first. THey sell gear at huge discounts because they are closouts or occasionally seconds (seconds meaning a barely noticeable flaw that in no way affects performance. Like the dye lot was slightly off, or something.
But most of they gear is closeouts [read: last season's colors of the same style]. Cheap. Or, you can look at The Sportsman's guide. Sometimes they have Keltys, but only occasionally Jansport. Try STP first. Title: Re:Classic, simple backpacks Post by: Tibby on January 21, 2004, 12:07:26 AM What is this world coming to when I have to order a basic backpack from the net? Anyways, thanks for the advice, I will check it out. My first guitar was Seconds. $1300 Tacoma with some fading on the backside, got it for $600! And she plays like a dream! I will check that stuff out, see what I can find.
Tibby just isn't Tibby without his Chuck's and Jansport. ;D Title: Re:Classic, simple backpacks Post by: Willowbirch on January 21, 2004, 12:13:02 PM What is this world coming to when I have to order a basic backpack from the net? A ‘classic’ backpack to me is all canvas, olive drab with a steel (no – not aluminum) tubing frame.
Try an Army/Navy surplus store. ;D ;D Title: Re:Classic, simple backpacks Post by: Tibby on January 21, 2004, 03:40:26 PM Willow- How long did you play? Why did you stop? :(
