Yet many Americans stand ready to allow Congress to decide what doctors they go to and what treatments they receive. We forget that once we have government-sponsored health care, it can be used to justify almost any restraint on liberty." --economist Walter E. Williams "The president claims that we must pass a government-run health insurance program -- possibly the most wide-ranging and intricate government undertaking in decades -- yesterday or a 'ticking time bomb' will explode. If all this terrifying talk sounds familiar, it might be because the president applies the same fear-infused vocabulary to nearly all his hard-to-defend policy positions. You'll remember the stimulus plan had to be passed without a second's delay or we would see 8.7 percent unemployment. We're almost at 10." --columnist David Harsanyi "Even if the 'stimulus' package doesn't seem to be doing much to stimulate the economy, it is certainly stimulating many potential recipients of government money to start lining up at the trough. All you need is something that sounds like a 'good thing' and the ability to sell the idea." --economist Thomas Sowell "The unifying constant of [Obama's] domestic policies -- their connecting thread -- is that they advance the Democrats' dependency agenda. The party of government aims to make Americans more equal by making them equally dependent on government for more and more things." --columnist George Will "While doctrinaire socialists might feel betrayed by liberalism's cozy embrace of big business, their betrayal pales in comparison to the bitterness of free-marketers who defend big business's freedom to operate, only to see these businesses use that freedom to hide behind the skirts of the nanny state. Real freedom means the freedom to fail as well as succeed. Big business wants to be protected from the former and deny competitors the latter. And their betrayal, more than anything, disheartens those who would defend both freedoms." --columnist Jonah Goldberg "We can debate endlessly whether the Constitution authorizes any president to 'overhaul' the financial system. But I want to focus on a different matter: whether any president, with all his advisers, is capable of overseeing something as complex as the financial system. My answer is no, and it is ominous that a bright guy like Obama doesn't know this. He thinks he must regulate the system because it is so complicated and important. In fact, those are the reasons why he cannot regulate it, and should not try." --columnist John Stossel EDITORIAL EXEGESIS "President Obama is making a promise on health care reform that is almost certainly impossible to keep. Actually, there are a lot of those, but for this editorial we will focus on just one: Obama's promise that health care reform won't be financed by even a penny of deficit spending. In his June 13 radio address, President Obama said, 'I have made a firm commitment that health care reform will not add to the federal deficit over the next decade.' Thursday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said, 'The President is not going to sign a health care bill that increases the size of the deficit.' Great! Health care reform will be fully paid for. But wait. The Congressional Budget Office released a letter last week (in response to a request from U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg, by the way) that reached the opposite conclusion. It noted that the proposals being considered in Washington would dramatically increase federal deficits. Just one part of the Kennedy plan alone would cost taxpayers $1 trillion over a decade. For health care reform to 'not add to the federal deficit over the next decade,' every penny of new taxpayer spending on health care reform would have to be paid for by either a tax increase or a spending cut somewhere else. We're talking about roughly $1 trillion in spending -- all paid for. But remember, we already have a $1.8 trillion deficit this year. Every penny spent on health care reform is a penny not spent to pay down the existing deficit. So in reality, health care reform will at the very least perpetuate existing deficits even if it doesn't expand them. Will Congress actually raise taxes and cut spending by $1 trillion to pay for health care reform? It will appear so on paper. But don't hold your breath waiting for the 'savings' to materialize." --New Hampshire Union Leader Title: The Patriot Post Chronicle 9-25 Post by: nChrist on June 29, 2009, 03:22:47 PM ____________________________ The Patriot Post Chronicle 9-25 From The Federalist Patriot Free Email Subscription (http://link.patriotpost.us/?136-160-160-217154-660) ____________________________ INSIGHT "If our economy of freedom fails to distribute wealth as ably as it has created it, the road to dictatorship will be open to any man who can persuasively promise security to all." -- psychologist and philosopher Will Durant (1885-1981) "The state is the great fiction by which everybody seeks to live at the expense of everybody else." --French economist, statesman and author Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850) "He who does not bellow out the truth when he knows the truth makes himself the accomplice of liars and forgers." --French poet, essayist and editor Charles Peguy (1873-1914) DEZINFORMATSIA It's about time: "The honeymoon is coming to an end for President Obama, but it's not personal, it's professional, as now the public appears to be judging the president on some of his actions. And right now, there's a growing concern about the budget deficit and some of this government interaction into the economy on things like GM. Five months into office, President Obama is now dealing with a public that is judging him more and more for the actions he's taking, and not just the promises he's made." --NBC's Chuck Todd "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain": "It is not an infomercial. ABC News does not do that." --ABC's Diane Sawyer on ABC's infomercial for Obamacare Wednesday night Obamessiah complex: "Howard Dean is the man who really laid out the path for Barack Obama. He was the St. John the Baptist, I'd say, leading for that fellow, not to make any further reference there to the Deity." --MSNBC's Chris Matthews From the sycophants: "In this fatherless world, where did you learn to love? ... Every parent in the country is watching your every move as a parent." --CBS's Harry Smith to Obama Non compos mentis: "On this Father's Day, the American public should proudly note that our president takes his personal role as father (and spouse) as seriously as he does his job as father of the country. ... Come next Father's Day, our banking crisis might not be wholly resolved, the auto industry might not be on its feet again, and health care coverage might not be fully available to the uninsured. But we can only hope that fathers and spouses everywhere will be thinking 'What Would Obama Do?' as they navigate through the murky waters of parenthood and family life." --San Francisco Chronicle columnist Jennifer Weiss No guns: "You've all seen what's happening in the streets of Tehran. How people are getting beaten, getting hit with tear gas, getting shot. Take a look at what Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio of Florida posted on his Twitter page after watching those scenes that we've been watching. Quote: 'I have a feeling the situation in Iran would be a little different if they had a Second Amendment like ours.' Wow! Things would be different if the protestors had the constitutional right to bear arms?! To fight back against the Iranian Guard? I hadn't thought of that. Then again it wouldn't really be a non-violent protest, would it Mr. Rubio, if the non-violent protestors were walking around with guns!" --Chris Matthews, earning a second spot in Dezinformatsia **Then again, maybe the protestors might actually accomplish something with guns.
