Title: Jesus of Nazareth Post by: Annahavil on January 19, 2004, 02:11:19 PM Back in the 1970's Franco Zeffirelli made this incredible film. I loved every minute of it. If only they would repear it. The haunting, beautiful music, the scenery, what a film. Let's hope many souls were saved by watching it. :)

I have several versions and that ranks among the best of them both technically and storywise. Another good one is "Jesus the Christ" issued by Vanguard Videos. This one is not technically as good as the Zeffirelli one but is more comprehensive storywise. It runs to 6 cassettes [twelve episodes]. The Zeffirelli video will be re-released on February 17, 2004 [Amazon.Com] and is currently available from Amazon.co.uk [PAL version].

I just finished posting on this minutes ago, under Hollywood's Shining Moments. Watching through "Jesus of Nazareth". A six+ hour movie. Just a bit this eve. Peter Ustinov as Herod. This whole gospel narrative, not to mention the OT too, is like a suspension of reality(or what we term as reality). A wonderful suspension of reality. God rips apart our world of hatred and death(the Massacre of Innocents, depicted so horribly in the movie--Herod, the madman...), bringing forth in the humility of an obscure barn manger, something wonderful, something forgiving...a baby. The movie gives us a much trimmer James Earl Jones(Darth Vader), as one of the wise men--perfect. Nice to just take it in pieces and meditate on it. And all out of Hollywood. Hmm. God was bringing out of naught the things that are, millinea ago, and here He is still doing it, out of the likes of Hollywood. *sigh* Out of the scum of the earth, God bringing forth miracles like an ongoing symphony playing forever.... |
