Title: Untruths
Post by: sincereheart on January 19, 2004, 08:04:22 AM
I think we'd all agree that lying is wrong, right?  :-\
But what about 'fibbing'?  ???

I recently read somewhere that someone thought fibbing was okay because it didn't harm anyone (or something to that effect).

Don't they all fall under the category of 'untruths'?

Apparently, women will lie about their age or weight or whatever. Is that acceptable? Wouldn't it be better to just not say than to fib about it? Aren't we to strive for honesty? :-\

I totally agree.  A quick way to test this theory is to ask yourself this question...

If God asked me about something that would harm him (sin in particular) would it be OK to fib to God about it in order not to offend him?

Clearly the answer must be no!

In regards to fibbing about ones age or weight, I would suggest it is better to not answer the question than to fib.   ;)  Pleed the 5th! lol

Grace and Peace!

Exo 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

This that I have posted above is what the word has to say on
the subject of liars. Notice the catagory that the book of Rev.
places "all liars";interesting company don't you think!

Brother Daniel (Webster) clearly tells us that to fib is to lie! to
tell an untruth! to tell a fabrication!
We are to be like Jesus, a follower of him: for that is what the
word christian means--to be Christ like! John 14:6 tells us that
Jesus was truth incarnate!

There is no gray area in this teaching of the word! The truth
of the word of God is always black and white, always clear,
and always clear in its simplicity!

The only thing that we can do as a christian is to speak the
truth, or not to speak at all! I know that this sounds harsh,
but sometimes love requires us to be strong, and to cling to
the uncompromising words of truth!

I hope that I have been of assistance to you, and please
understand that what I have said was not said in anger, or
in judgement; but in love.

respectfully yours in Yeshua:

Mentally? Or chronologically?  ;)

That was my thinking...

It doesn't sound harsh to me.  :)

And I thank you both.

But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. (Matthew 5:37-kjv)

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. (Revelation 3:15-16-kjv)

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (Matthew 12:36-37-kjv)
