Title: FREEDOM - TAKE A LOOK Post by: nChrist on February 26, 2009, 11:36:15 PM FREEDOM - TAKE A LOOK Brothers and Sisters, I am intentionally reposting a few recent Founders Quotes. We don't want to look back at FREEDOM and try to remember what it was like. There was a tremendous cost in lives, blood, sweat, and tears in obtaining our FREEDOM. Our finest young men and women of COURAGE in every generation still must defend our FREEDOM to preserve it. Many in all generations have given their lives or portions of their bodies in this cause, and their sacrifices must never be forgotten. They are NOBLE, and I give thanks for them. They are PATRIOTS, and they will never be forgotten. This includes several generations of still living PATRIOTS who gave much for our FREEDOMS. I mention these things because we must never let our guard down. We must remain vigilant and know there are some who DO WISH to remove our FREEDOMS and enslave us in various ways. As a PEOPLE, we must never allow this and be ready to STAND UP to defend our FREEDOM that was earned and preserved by so many noble and courageous men and women. Even our children participated in the struggle, and we MUST all be ready to STAND UP AND DO IT AGAIN! WATCH -- LISTEN -- BE VIGILANT -- STAND GUARD!! __________________________ Founder's Quote Daily "Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States." --Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, 10 October 1787 ___________________________ Founder's Quote Daily "To suppose arms in the hands of citizens, to be used at individual discretion, except in private self-defense, or by partial orders of towns, counties or districts of a state, is to demolish every constitution, and lay the laws prostrate, so that liberty can be enjoyed by no man; it is a dissolution of the government. The fundamental law of the militia is, that it be created, directed and commanded by the laws, and ever for the support of the laws." --John Adams, A Defence of the Constitutions of Government of the United States of America, 1787-1788 ___________________________ Founder's Quote Daily "Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect every one who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined." --Patrick Henry, speech in the Virginia Ratifying Convention, 5 June 1778 (My Note: Again, read this carefully and consider an application for today.) ___________________________ Founder's Quote Daily "When the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, - who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually, by totally disusing and neglecting the militia." --George Mason, speech in the Virginia Ratifying Convention, 14 June 1778 (My Note: Read this carefully and consider an application for today.) ___________________________ Founder's Quote Daily "Whereas, to preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them; nor does it follow from this, that all promiscuously must go into actual service on every occasion. The mind that aims at a select militia, must be influenced by a truly anti-republican principle; and when we see many men disposed to practice upon it, whenever they can prevail, no wonder true republicans are for carefully guarding against it." --Richard Henry Lee, Letters from the Federal Farmer, 1788 ___________________________ Founder's Quote Daily "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." --Cesare Beccaria, On Crimes and Punishment, quoted by Thomas Jefferson in Commonplace Book, 1774-1776 ___________________________ Founder's Quote Daily "The multiplication of public offices, increase of expense beyond income, growth and entailment of a public debt, are indications soliciting the employment of the pruning knife." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to Spencer Roane, 9 March 1821 ___________________________ Founder's Quote Daily "This new world hath been the asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious liberty from every part of Europe. Hither have they fled, not from the tender embraces of the mother, but from the cruelty of the monster; and it is so far true of England, that the same tyranny which drove the first emigrants from home, pursues their descendants still." --Thomas Paine, Common Sense, 1776 ___________________________ Founder's Quote Daily "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Stephens Smith, 13 November 1787 (My Note: Sadly, there does come a time when tyrants must be dealt with. We should know about many impossible things to tolerate that are associated with the tyrants of history. This is all about the ancient struggle of good against evil. Liberty is never free, but the cost is worth it. As a Christian analogy, JESUS CHRIST died on the CROSS to liberate great hosts from the curse of sin and death. There is no greater Love than to lay down your life for another.) |
