Right now I am reading "The God Chasers" by Tommy Tenney, it is a great book, and I can't wait to get to the second book of the series.

Right NOW?  Gee – I get bored too easily – I’ve got a bunch of books going:
“Classic Christianity” by Bob George
“The Case for Christ” by Lee Strobel
“Odd Thomas” by Dean Koontz
“The Teeth of the Tiger” by Tom Clancy
“Isaiah” by God  ;D
“The Book of John” by John  :)

I recommend all except the Clancy novel – it’s too ‘trashy’.  

I’m almost done with “Odd Thomas” – it’s a really fun book.  Dean Koontz is getting spiritual in his old age.  I’ve read everything he has written, and have noticed he is referring to God more in each successive book.  Compared to most “secular” novelists, he has almost no sex or bad language.  He has always had a Good vs. Evil theme in all his writings, and Good always wins.  Hooray!

“The God Chasers” – I’ll start watching for it (them) – I’ll be out of something to read in about 4 more days.

I found it laying around at the local used book store. It is a good Movie, so I figured, what the hey, I'll only be up 2 bucks if I don't like it, and I can jut pass it off to a friend as a gift later ;D

Its not by Morgenstern (sp?) and there is no sequel called "Buttercup's Baby". And if you got the version that has the looooong introduction talking about Mr. Goldman's fat son etc., and how Goldman's father read him the "classic tale of love and high adventure" in poor English, its fake too.  ;D It was all written recently by William Goldman, and a lot of folks in the literary world think it is an abridgement of an old classic by Morganstern, originally composed in a remote area in a foreign country. Goldman assures us that you can still visit the places where the story happens (and I believed it, though reluctantly!  :P), such as the wild swamps of the undead, with talcum-powder quicksand...hey, its a foreign country, so maybe things are stranger there than here.

Goldman uses his Morgenstern penname in another book as well, "The Silent Gondolier".

It was a lot of fun, being fooled for a while; I was frustrated when I found out the truth, but then I laughed, 'cause it is kinda funny.

Luckily, there are lots of Blondes in the world, so folks like Goldman will always have someone to prey on.  ;D

Yeah, his intro was telling this story about how he found it. It is called "The Good parts version" ;D

Also, Goldman claims "The Princess Bride" is based on a true story.  ;D That's why I believed all the stuff about tourists being able to visit locations mentioned in the book.

Yeah, I started to wonder then he said his father was from Florn...

I am reading "Love on the Dole" by Walter Greenwood.  It is a bird's eye view of life in the '30's.  If you think you are badly off now, read this and think you are a king.  LOL

In the Bible I am reading my way through the book of Isaiah, and I am also reading Pilgrims Progress for the first time.  :)

"The Pilgrim's Progress" is recognised as being one of the finest literary examples after the Bible.  

"Now as Christian was walking solitarily by himself he espied one afar off come crossing over the field to meet him; and their hap was to meet just as they were crossing the way of each other. The gentleman's name that met him was Mr. Worldly-wiseman; he dwelt in the town of Carnal Policy, a very great town, and also hard by from whence Christian came. This man, then, meeting with Christian, and having some inkling of him, for Christian's setting forth from the City of Destruction was much noised abroad, not only in the town where he dwelt, but, also, it began to be the town-talk in some other places. Master Worldly- wiseman, therefore, having some guess of him, by beholding his laborious going, by observing his sighs and groans, and the like, began thus to enter into some talk with Christian.

WORLD. How now, good fellow, whither away after this burdened manner?

Pilgrims Progress, an excellent book. I wish more people would read it. It realy makes you think, if you allow it. Enjoy

I read it 40 years ago. Do you think I need to read it again? Let me see if memory serves me correctly. Is it written by John Bunyan?

If so, it is available an an E-Book, free of charge, in the Gutenberg Project. They have a large list of literary masterpieces and an excellent freeware E-Book Reader called Y-Book. If anyone is interested, I'll post the details.

I'm an old guy and was somewhat confused. Thanks for explaining. I'm trying to remember, was Paul Bunyon one of those old cartoons involving a giant man and a giant ox? If so, I didn't like it.   ;D  Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemity Sam, and Roadrunner were much better.

When I was a kid Paul Bunyan was a storybook from the library, not a cartoon (maybe it became one, and that's too bad because they are never like the original books). The story of a giant lumberjack with a blue ox named babe.

I'm reading: Tested by Fire: The Fruit of Suffering in the Lives of John Bunyan, William Cowper and David Brainerd by John Piper at the moment.

I've never read the Pilgrim's Progress  :-[ I have a copy though, but I took against Bunyan years ago. I've read Lewis' Pilgrim's Regress though.

May I suggest that you read Bunyan, Broken.  After all he has a rather long established record.  Maybe you will then be "mended."   It is rather like saying you read "Herald Tribune" when one is asked to read " New York Times"  8)

I'll probably get around to reading Bunyan someday ;) I just always thought....what a dreary guy. & I can't say I'm over-fond of his way of expressing himself. As its a classic, I will probably read it soon - once I've got through the book I'm reading at the moment and then I've got some weird book I picked up somewhere about the dance of God or something like that.

it is an interesting book of poetry. i heard about this author @ a library where i read. it is an ineterseting style he uses almost as if you are listening to a conversation with him and God. it is quite an easy read for those who are into poetry

I just started reading (rereading) Tom Clancy, Teeth of the Tiger.
It is a well written book about Jack Ryan Jr., for a change.

I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird which is about life in the 30s from the vantage point of a grade school girl in the deep south (Alabama).

I'm also reading 2 Chronicles, Psalms and Proverbs.

Just got done reading The Last Days by Joel Rosenberg.  I'm currently reading Assualt At Selonia by Roger M. Allen, book 2 of the Corellian Trilogy.  Yup!  I'm a Star Wars geek!   ;D  I'm waiting rather impatiently for The Lone Drow by R.A. Salvatore to go to paperback.  Might I add, that Salvatore is the preeminite fantasy author out there today?  Yupyup.

As for my Bible reading...I just started reading through the Bible, with a particular look at salvific grace throughout the Book.  I've really enjoyed it so far!  That and I'm only through Genesis 3.  

How could you!? Dungeon’s and Dragon’s books, Allinall? A4C would be so ashamed of you! ;D ;D

Ok, for real, ever read the Cleric’s Quartet? Salvador is some of the greats.

I am reading Holy Blood holy grail. it's very detail orientened and reasearch oriented, not a character book, like the Davinchi Code, but what that book used for it's facts. it's a good modern mystery though. I also just finished reading Al Franken's book "lies and the lying liers who tell them."  Very Funny, Witty, and factual. Everyone should read it before this coming election. It'll give you a better perspective than what the mainstream media is going to give you, especially on this current administration.

Hello!

I don't know if you all are into ebooks, but I found one at Lulu.com called The Silver Cord:Cimmerian Dawn that was a good read.  I
read it in one day, and felt a strong sense of understanding after reading it.  It is Christian fiction but I found it under regular fiction thrillers.  I paid $15.00 for the ebook.  It that about right for an ebook?
