Title: Rememberance Sunday!
Post by: sparky88uk on November 09, 2008, 10:11:54 AM
Here in the UK the Sunday nearest 11th November the armistice signing of World War 1 we have services to remember the sacrifice of soldiers of the 2 world wars and other conflicts up to the present, not to remember victories or defeats but sacrifice by those who gave us the freedoms we enjoy and abuse.

Now of course this being a Christian site you are all already way ahead of me in thinking we should remember the sacrifice that can save all people, that of the Lord Jesus and you are absolutely correct, but we had a preacher at our church this morning who is a deputy for CWI (Christian witness for Israel) and he reminded us again that the it is only because the Jewish people rejected the the Gospel and Christ that we were able to get the crumbs off the table meant for the dogs. ( And what filling crumbs they are)

He doesn't get carried away with prophetic or political things but the Biblical facts that Israel (the people) are still God's chosen people and that we need to pray and witness to the Jewish people all over the world to accept Christ as their saviour just as we do and indeed it is encouraging to know that even in the day when the Gentile world is rejecting Christ even more than ever, the Jewish people are embracing Him more and more.
About 40 years ago or so there were only a bout 50 Believing Jews and today the number is nearer 10,000.

Now history does not help our witness because "religious Christians" I use the words loosely have conspired to help in the persecution of the Jews and so their retreat into the ghetto mentality of their own religion even if not acceptable is somewhat understandable.

I think what I am trying to say is that we owe a debt of gratitude to a Jewish Son of God and to the Jewish people who though not yet gathered back to their Father will be when they come to Christ in faith and repentance.

Israel (the people) are still God's chosen people and that we need to pray and witness to the Jewish people all over the world to accept Christ as their saviour

Amen! We see throughout the New Testament where we are told to teach and preach the Gospel to "all nations." It is quite clear that no one is to be left out in the need to hear God's word nor to be left out of God's merciful love if they but turn to Him.

God is not yet finished with His people. There is still time but that time may be running short. Now is the time for all to turn to Him.

Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Salvation, salvation from death under the law by God's perfect grace.

Rom 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:11  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Rom 3:12  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Rom 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Rom 3:20  Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Rom 3:27  Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Rom 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 5:9  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Rom 2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Rom 3:22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Rom 3:28  Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Rom 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 4:21  And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

Rom 4:24  But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

Rom 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Rom 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Sorry about the link folks, just goes to show you that ticking the I agree box without reading can be a mistake but I fully agree now.

Just been to the evening service for the 2nd part of the talk on the subject of witnessing to Israel and the Jewish people and the text was from Isaiah 44:23 and the last half of that sentence "he displays his glory in Israel".

What Stephen Atkinson says really brings home what God is doing, I take from it that having chose Israel as the chosen people is a reflection of the Gospel they were always sinning, rebellious and self seeking but because God loved them He made his glory shine in them hence the Exodus the victories the temple and so on and on.

But he is willing to forgive but on the same conditions as any can be forgiven, only by Grace alone, through Christ alone, by faith alone.

In the modern age just as through the ages the Jewish people have displayed his glory, they are only .25 of the world population but look at the achievements musicians, teachers, scientists,bankers,doctors,Noble prize winners the list goes on.

Then since God gave the land of Israel back to them and started to gather them back from the scattering of the nation they have against the odds in human terms grown and made the land blossom,with God's guidance, from 50 believers in 1948 to 10-12 thousand today God is at work and we can look forward to the day as Stephen says only God knows when that the scriptures will be fullfilled and Christ shall come again.

Now as he also said it is no mistake that Israel is surrounded by foes and that they have all the worldly wealth, which we as so called Christian countries pander to them for, but we would do well to remember not to store up riches here or be unequally yolked with un-believers but rather we should be praying for God's Holy Spirit to convict the souls of the Jewish people and bring them back to Christ and so bring nearer the day of Salvation for us all.

I have not put all the supporting scriptures in as I have said I don't want to be always quoting as I don't presume to know enough but it is there and it is true.
So if that all is not "displaying his glory in Israel" I don't know what is?

So if that all is not "displaying his glory in Israel" I don't know what is?

His glory, His grace and His promises is indeed evident through this and through all that is given in scripture.

rather we should be praying for God's Holy Spirit to convict the souls of the Jewish people and bring them back to Christ and so bring nearer the day of Salvation for us all.

Here I must disagree a bit. Yes, we should most assuredly be praying and witnessing to all to bring them to the Lord, including the Jewish people. However God's time will not be hastened, delayed or changed in any manner. His time, known only to Him, will be the perfect time and according to His will irregardless of what we may or may not do. When scripture uses the word "hasten" in regards to the Lord's coming it is referring to our eagerly waiting for Him and not in an action by us that may or may not speed up His return.

Sorry about that I did not mean that the time would change but when the scriptures would be fullfilled it would be near the time it is true that only God knows.
Just thought I would add this as have just been off the phone to friends in Canada and it was the first time I had the chance to tell them of God's work in me, and looked at the verse in Luke 17 verse 34 and it makes me want to tell everyone I know and repeat it to those I have told already why they need Christ.

34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left.

New International Version

Amen, if we have the love for all within us then the knowledge that anyone may get left at the second coming should be a driving force for us all to ensure that we spread the good news of the gospel.
