Title: The Patriot Post Chronicle 08-34 Post by: nChrist on August 21, 2008, 12:46:17 PM ______________________________ The Patriot Post Chronicle 08-34 From The Federalist Patriot ______________________________ THE FOUNDATION: CHARACTER “Nothing is more essential to the establishment of manners in a State than that all persons employed in places of power and trust must be men of unexceptionable characters.” - Samuel Adams THE DEMO-GOGUES Look who’s talking: “I would not have nominated, uhhh, Clarence Thomas. Uh, I don’t think that he’s - uhhh... uhhh... I - I - I - I - I - I don’t think that he was an exper... uh, a strong enough jurist or legal thinker, uh, at the time, uh, for that elevation. Setting aside the fact that I profoundly disagree with his interpretations of a lot of the Constitution.” - Barack Obama when asked by Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren which Supreme Court Justice he would NOT have nominated Question and non-answer: “At what point does a baby get human rights?” - Rick Warren - “I think that whether you are looking at it from a theological perspective or, uh, a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, uh, you know, is above my pay grade.” - Barack Obama, who seeks the office with the highest “pay grade” in the country The Chosen One: “[Barack Obama is] a leader that God has blessed us with at this time.” - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Or not: “I believe there are a lot of supporters for Hillary among the superdelegates, especially now that they’ve agreed to place her name in nomination. I think half the House Democrats would probably be Hillary supporters, especially women... I felt she was the most experienced and the best candidate and I still feel that way.” - Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) American pride: “It would be nice to think that after eight years of economic disaster, after eight years of bungled foreign policy, of being engaged in a war that should never have been authorized and should never have been waged, that cost us a trillion dollars and thousands of lives, that people would say, let’s toss the bums out. Toss the bums out, we’re starting from scratch, we’re starting over. This is not working.” - Barack Obama If the shoe fits: “[Republicans] say this other guy is unpatriotic, or this guy likes French people. That’s what they said about [2004 Demo presidential contender John] Kerry. They try to make it out like Democrats aren’t tough enough, aren’t macho enough.” - Barack Obama Talking tough: “John McCain doesn’t know what he’s up against.” - Barack Obama, who’s now down five points in the polls Break “I will win. Don’t worry about that.” - Barack Obama EDITORIAL EXEGESIS “Barack Obama likes to portray himself as a centrist politician who wants to unite the country, but occasionally his postpartisan mask slips. That was the case at Saturday night’s Saddleback Church forum, when Mr. Obama chose to demean Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Pastor Rick Warren asked each Presidential candidate which Justices he would not have nominated. Mr. McCain said, ‘with all due respect’ the four most liberal sitting Justices because of his different judicial philosophy. Mr. Obama took a lower road, replying first that ‘that’s a good one,’ and then adding that ‘I would not have nominated Clarence Thomas... I don’t think that he was a strong enough jurist or legal thinker at the time for that elevation. Setting aside the fact that I profoundly disagree with his interpretation of a lot of the Constitution.’ The Democrat added that he also wouldn’t have appointed Antonin Scalia, and perhaps not John Roberts, though he assured the audience that at least they were smart enough for the job. So let’s see. By the time he was nominated, Clarence Thomas had worked in the Missouri Attorney General’s office, served as an Assistant Secretary of Education, run the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and sat for a year on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, the nation’s second most prominent court. Since his ‘elevation’ to the High Court in 1991, he has also shown himself to be a principled and scholarly jurist. Meanwhile, as he bids to be America’s Commander in Chief, Mr. Obama isn’t yet four years out of the Illinois state Senate, has never held a hearing of note of his U.S. Senate subcommittee, and had an unremarkable record as both a ‘community organizer’ and law school lecturer. Justice Thomas’s judicial credentials compare favorably to Mr. Obama’s Presidential rèsumè by any measure. And when it comes to rising from difficult circumstances, Justice Thomas’s rural Georgian upbringing makes Mr. Obama’s story look like easy street. Even more troubling is what the Illinois Democrat’s answer betrays about his political habits of mind. Asked a question he didn’t expect at a rare unscripted event, the rookie candidate didn’t merely say he disagreed with Justice Thomas. Instead, he instinctively reverted to the leftwing clichè that the Court’s black conservative isn’t up to the job while his white conservative colleagues are. So much for civility in politics and bringing people together. And no wonder Mr. Obama’s advisers have refused invitations for more such open forums, preferring to keep him in front of a teleprompter, where he won’t let slip what he really believes.” - The Wall Street Journal __________________________________ Title: The Patriot Post Chronicle 08-34 Post by: nChrist on August 21, 2008, 12:47:59 PM ______________________________ The Patriot Post Chronicle 08-34 From The Federalist Patriot ______________________________ INSIGHT “The principle of government control over information is inseparable from the principle of government control over people’s lives.” - James Bovard “Nothing doth more hurt in a state than that cunning men pass for wise.” - Sir Francis Bacon “Everything that deceives may be said to enchant.” - Plato UPRIGHT “When asked what America’s greatest moral failing was, theological Obama said it was our collective failure to ‘abide by that basic precept in [the Book of] Matthew that whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.’ For Obama the politician, such scriptural quotations often serve as an all-inclusive writ to impose his religious views on others when it comes to fighting poverty, global warming, racism, etc. But when the question turns to abortion, political Obama insists on a policy of moral agnosticism and political laissez-faire.” - Jonah Goldberg “Obama is the only elected official on record to ever vote in favor of denying life-saving medical care to children who had been born but that were struggling for life. Is that a decision too confusing so as to be ‘above the pay grade’ as well?” - Kevin McCullough “It is now clear why Barack Obama has refused John McCain’s offer of joint town hall appearances during the fall campaign. McCain is obviously better at them.” - Michael Gerson “Candidly talking about racial issues doesn’t make you a racist any more than being aware of gender differences makes you a sexist.” - Terry Paulson “The overwhelming votes for Obama in some virtually all-white states show that many Americans are ready to move beyond race. But Obama himself wants to have it both ways, by attributing racist notions to the McCain camp that has never made race an issue. The problem with clever people is that they don’t know when to stop being clever - and Senator Obama is a very clever man, perhaps ‘too clever by half’ as the British say.” - Thomas Sowell DEZINFORMATSIA If you can’t beat ‘em, accuse ‘em of cheating: “The Obama people must feel that he didn’t do quite as well as they might have wanted to [at Saddleback Church], because that - what they’re putting out privately is that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama. He seemed so well prepared.” - ABC’s Andrea Mitchell repeating the canard that McCain cheated in the interview with Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren This week’s “Theo-lib” Award: “Obama was all right, but not great... Seems to me that given all that church talk during the Saturday night festivities - and given Rick Warren’s well-documented ministry to the ‘least of these’ - Obama had plenty of room to emphasize the decidedly unChristian nature of Republican economic policies. He might have quoted Jesus on how difficult it is for rich people to go to heaven... and said something like, ‘I want it be [sic] easier for rich people to get in... We need to tax them more for their own good’.” - Time Magazine’s Joe Klein on the Saddleback Forum Defending the Chosen One: “[Jerome Corsi’s book Obama Nation] is a compilation of all the innuendo and false rumors against Obama - that he was raised a Muslim, attended a radical, black church and secretly has a ‘black rage’ hidden beneath the surface. In fact, Obama is a Christian who attended Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.” - Associated Press writer Nedra Pickler **Uh, Nedra... Trinity IS a radical, black church . Leftmedia confession: “Democrat Barack Obama has had about a 3 to 1 advantage over Republican John McCain in [Washington] Post Page 1 stories since Obama became his party’s presumptive nominee June 4... The disparity is so wide that it doesn’t look good... This is not just a Post phenomenon... Its latest report, [The Project for Excellence] for the week of Aug. 4-10, shows that for the eighth time in nine weeks, Obama received significantly more coverage than McCain... Readers deserve comparable coverage of the candidates.” - Washington Post writer Deborah Howell Patriotism is old fashioned?: “Is that a cool thing to say in this day and age? That you love your country, and that you’re fighting for the red, white and blue? It seems sort of like a day gone by.” - NBC’s Chris Collinsworth interviewing Olympic basketball player Kobe Bryant, who called the U.S. “the greatest country in the world” and that playing in the Olympics for the U.S. is “a tremendous honor” ________________________________________ Title: The Patriot Post Chronicle 08-34 Post by: nChrist on August 21, 2008, 12:49:50 PM ______________________________ The Patriot Post Chronicle 08-34 From The Federalist Patriot ______________________________ Newspulper Headlines: “The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations”: “Cindy Sheehan Qualifies to Run for Pelosi’s Seat” - Associated Press Help Wanted: “Police Seek Elderly Man Who Speaks No English” - Atlanta Journal-Constitution Everything Seemingly Is Spinning Out of Control: “Hunters Claim to Have Found Bigfoot, Internet Goes Nuts” - CNet.com Break “Pet Monkey Finds Escape Route, Runs Free in Indiana Neighborhood” - Star Press (Muncie, IN) Break “Cinderella, Snow White, Tinkerbell Arrested at Disneyland” - NewsMax.com News You Can Use: “For Most People, College Is a Waste of Time” - The Wall Street Journal Bottom Stories of the Day: “Ralph Nader Greets 150 Supporters in Toronto” - National Post (Canada) Break “S.F. We want our people, our values to be respected. We have always been a peace-loving state. Practically there is not a single occasion in the history of the Russian or Soviet state when we first started military actions. We have not attacked anyone, we only secured the rights and dignity of people as peacekeepers.” - Russia president Dimitry Medvedev SHORT CUTS “The Democratic Party platform is like a bag of pork rinds. She’s in the House and he’s in the Senate. The only power Nancy Pelosi has to strip Joe Lieberman is if she decides to moonlight as an airport screener and he comes through her checkpoint.” - Argus Hamilton “I could care less about the color of Barack Obama’s skin, but the thinness of it is starting to wear on me.” - Dennis Miller “Mr. Obama has a deep, rich voice. Coming from his mouth, nonsense sounds good. But it’s still nonsense.” - Jack Kelly “Poor Caroline Kennedy... as you know, she’s vetting Obama’s veep choices. How difficult must it be for her to find somebody less qualified than Obama?
