Title: OneNewsNow.com recovers from weekend hacking Post by: Soldier4Christ on August 12, 2008, 05:33:03 PM OneNewsNow.com recovers from weekend hacking
OneNewsNow.com, formerly AgapePress, is a division of American Family Radio. Along with the American Family Association Journal (AFA) Journal the American Family Radio is an operation of the American Family Association. An investigation is under way into the weekend hacking of the OneNewsNow.com website. The attacks took place at two different times this weekend, making the website temporarily unavailable. It is believed the attacks originated outside the United States and involved more than 4,000 other websites. OneNewsNow.com, as well as other sites such as Voice of the Martyrs, has carried numerous stories of Christian persecution in China, as that country hosts the Olympic Games. David Smith is in the IT department for OneNewsNow and says no user information was compromised in the attack. "From what we can tell, no information was actually sent back to the hackers," Smith explains. "Basically, they just updated our database to read what they wanted it to read." Smith says the problem has been corrected. However, he points out that the comments section on articles may not be operational until the middle of the week. Title: Re: OneNewsNow.com recovers from weekend hacking Post by: nChrist on August 12, 2008, 10:24:44 PM Brothers and Sisters,
I'm really not surprised. In fact, I expected more and sooner. As Christians, we should expect to be attacked, and OneNewsNow is definitely Christian. I didn't know that they used to be AgapePress, and I appreciate the information. I used to get Christian News every day from AgapePress, and I really enjoyed their coverage. I also greatly appreciate the excellent work being done by the American Family Association, Voice of the Martyrs, and many other outstanding Christian organizations that are desperately needed in this day and age. I will be praying that all Christian services are able to stay up and run at 100% capacity until CHRIST takes us home. I don't know if my personal computer problems are related to the same thing or not, but I do have logs of thousands of hits from Beijing. I notified the other moderators and knew that I had posted numerous articles about Christian persecution in China. Frankly, I can't think of any other reason why my computer would be hit from Beijing. I don't do anything on the Internet except Christian volunteer work. I have a heavily modified firewall now, and most of the blocked entries are from China, mainly Beijing. I must add that this is not through Christians Unite. I start getting hits from Beijing as soon as I connect to the Internet. I mentioned this because I'm firmly convinced that Christians Unite is still one of the safest places on the Internet. Logs indicate my computer being hit directly from Beijing. LORD Willing, I will keep posting Christian News and Christian materials of all kinds. I don't plan to allow Beijing any control over what I feel led to do for the LORD. If need be, I'll block every IP block in China in my firewall. At this point, that just might be necessary. The following list might help someone experiencing the same problem. They did manage to crash my computer, and I had to install fresh. I did file some complaints with my ISP and with net abuse contacts in China. I'll just say that it was a mistake to file complaints in China, and the problems became much worse. My ISP had no idea what I could do except firewall entries. Column 1- just a note to help me describe the net range in a short way. Column 2 - the actual firewall entry. the "/##" portion is an IP block notation used by my firewall and standard to describe a specific net block. Column 3 - the last IP number in the net. Note: Some of the listed nets are very large, even though the IP block notations look like they might be small. Many of the nets have sub-nets and are HUGE. Please note that all of the below nets are from China, and the majority of them are from Beijing.
