Title: I need some assistence in finding scripture Post by: David_james on July 25, 2008, 08:40:14 AM I will be using this thread over the next while to get help finding scripture to help sissy find the truth.
There is one thing though, I must use the catholic translation. The first is, I need something saying that was can't pray to the dead. Second, that talking to someone that is in heaven is praying. I don't use a Catholic Bible but the one that I do use has the same verses in it as theirs does. Here are some verses that pertain to this. Ecclesiastes 9:5; Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13; 1 Chronicles 10:13-14; 2 Chronicles 33:6 Spiritual Guidance Comes from God Alone: Isaiah 8:19; Hebrews 4:14; 1 Timothy 2:5; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3 Deceiving Spirits, Demonic Forces, Angels of Light, Counterfeits for the Truth 1 Timothy 4:1; 1 Corinthians 10:20-21; 2 Corinthians 11:14-15; 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 Title: Re: I need some assistence in finding scripture Post by: Brother Jerry on July 25, 2008, 11:56:19 AM Good ones PR.
Also remember the story where Jesus told them to let the dead bury the dead. We should not worry about those that have past because our focus should be on the Living, the Living God. Title: Re: I need some assistence in finding scripture Post by: David_james on July 26, 2008, 07:28:20 AM Most of that has nothing to do with praying or the dead.
All I have is Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they shall die, but the dead know nothing more, neither have they a reward any more: for the memory of them is forgotten. Deuteronomy 18:10 For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering.* And do not let your people practice fortune-telling or sorcery, or allow them to interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11 or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. and even that probably isn't enough Title: Re: I need some assistence in finding scripture Post by: Soldier4Christ on July 26, 2008, 10:46:11 AM On the contrary. When we are praying to the dead we are actually trying to talk to the dead in hopes that they can hear us. How can they do any of that if they no longer have the ability to know anything?
Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. The following verse is talking about someone that is talking to a spirit other than the Holy Spirit: Lev 20:27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them. So is the following verses: Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. Both a "consulter with familiar spirit" and a "necromancer" speak with those that they think are spirits of the dead. In the following verses Saul was using a person that spoke to what they thought was a dead person and was asking counsel of them instead of God. 1Ch 10:13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; 1Ch 10:14 And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse. Again we see another person that "did evil" by speaking to those they thought were dead spirits: 2Ch 33:6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. The following verses tell us quite clearly that we are to seek guidance from God not through Mary or any other "saint", if we pray to Mary or some supposed "saint" that is exactly what we are not doing. Spiritual Guidance Comes from God Alone: Isaiah 8:19; Hebrews 4:14; 1 Timothy 2:5; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3 Or we are asking that dead person (Mary or some "saint" ) to be a mediator between us and God: 1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; The following verses teach us to beware of such as they most likely will be: Deceiving Spirits, Demonic Forces, Angels of Light, Counterfeits for the Truth 1 Timothy 4:1; 1 Corinthians 10:20-21; 2 Corinthians 11:14-15; 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 |
