Title: Coming Year?
Post by: Symphony on December 25, 2003, 09:04:02 PM

What's been one lesson, or the best lesson, you've learned this last year, or since you've been on here, here at CU Forums?

Or, a lesson that you would like to learn better, or work on, in the coming year.

Mine is about humility, and letting the other guy speak.

And imagining that the best state of affairs, is when I do not exist at all. (Not my will, but Thy will...)...

His will working through me--patiently, kindly, gracefully, thoughtfully, considerately--and my will not here at all.

I'd like to work on that.   In Jesus' Name...

I've discovered that timing is very, very important. God is never early, and never late. And we can jump the gun, so to speak. But even when we do, He is with us and will reshape the pot into something else, but it can be costly for us.

We know God knows what He's doing. (Duh.) And we know it's for the best. (Duhx2) But He really, really does. He isn't ignoring us. He's just setting things up. And (lesson from 2 years ago), if we truly, truly expect great things of Him, and truly great things for what He will do in us, He will not disappoint. He will use us beyond our wildest imaginations.

If we expect nothing, He may be gracious anyway. But what a costly mistake doubt is. Once we taste His power, it has a way of opening up all, all, all of scripture in a way we never looked at it before. It is powerful. And completely holy. God is holy.

Oklahoma Howdy to Symphony & Whitehorse,

AMEN!

Specifically, I have been thinking about and praying about Christian love for months. In many ways, my thoughts and prayers are related to both of your posts. My old hard-nosed street cop shows up far too often, and I'm praying for God's help in going the opposite direction.

Symphony, many of the things you are thinking about are directly related to Christian love. From my perspective, you already exhibit many of the attributes you are thinking about.

Whitehorse, we should put away doubt when we pray for guidance and His will in our lives. It will be His way and His time, not our own. You said it perfectly when you described how we want everything right now and lack patience. Yes, God will guide us into His purpose if we will yield to His will and His Time.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Tom, how true. It's just so peaceful to simply trust, and I feel like I should be working hard at it. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I do. It's kind of like that watch that gave me a rash (I'm not saying there's any spiritual significance to it or anything; it's just one of those providences that sparks a lesson in my mind). I feel like I'm supposed to be making the most of every opportunity, but if I have to use a crowbar, that probably isn't an opporunity yet. So I get irritated, feeling like I'm supposed to be really working hard at it, and so I take the watch off. And I keep asking God if I'm barking up the wrong tree. And I keep getting the same answer, if I'm perceiving it correctly:

Wait.

Love in Christ,
Whitehorse

Whew, Whitehorse.    :-X   You've covered it.   Yikes.   thank you.

Thank you, bep.

I'm not sure being your old hard-nosed street cop is necessarily a bad thing.  Thankless, unpopular too.  Policemen don't too often win popularity contests(well, Sandra Bullock did in Miss Congeniality! ;D  But that's a very silly movie, if ever I did see one :-[(but the others watching it seemed to like it... ::))).

And as a veteran, whew, that'd be difficult to shed anyway.  I appreciate your calling a spade a spade.

Enforcing of the law is just no picnic, until we all come into a knowledge and fulness of His grace...

The lesson of 2003 and continuing is KEEP MY BIG TRAP SHUT.
Trap is a good word for the ole mouth of mine, cuz what I say
often snares me.  While reading the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, I learned a good definition for gossip: passing information when you are neither part of the problem nor a part of the solution.  I needed this definition so now I can get my tongue in line witht the Word of God.  I want to learn to speak words that minister grace to the hearers. When dealing with matters of the heart, conflicts at home or church, I want to comment only when the Holy Ghost tells me to and to say what he leads me to say... :-X

Oklahoma Howdy to Symphony, Whitehorse, A.B., All,

It's nice to see that we all appear to be asking for guidance into HIS will and purpose in our lives. We can be understanding with each other, pray for each other, and enjoy Christian fellowship while God is working in us and through us. I'm positive that HIS Grace and Love is much more than sufficient to fulfill our needs. To HIM be all the Glory!

Thanks be unto God for HIS unspeakable GIFT!

Love In Christ,
Tom
