Here are my answers.  I'm going to be brave and post them, right or wrong since this is "just for fun"

1. What is the largest factors that determine heating or cooling of the earth?
            A. Manmade CO2
            B. Hydrogen and Oxygen
            C. The Sun
            D. Smog
            E. A & D
            F. B & C
            G. God

2. Arabs lived in Israel before the Jews did.

True or False - if they were in the land before the Jews, it wasn't called "Israel" then.  The Canaanites were in the land before the Jews were though.

3. Tea and Coffee remove necessary Iron from people.

True or False (I'm not sure but either way I'm not giving them up!  ;D)

4. The Bible is Full of Contradictions

True or False

5. Divorce is a sin and forbidden in the Bible.

True or False - It was allowed in some instances.

6. There is no substantiated evidence of the Exodus from Egypt.

True or False- They have found evidence of what look to be chariots and chariots wheels under the sea covered with 1000's of years of coral, etc.  They are too fragile to move but it's pretty fascinating.

7. Early Christians believed in a flat earth.

True or False - (This is a total guess!)

8. The Great Wall of China is the only manmade structure visible from space

True or False

9. Humans use only 10 percent of their brains

True or False (Unless you're in government, then you use a lot less).

10. A penny dropped from the top of a tall building could kill a pedestrian

True or False (Well that's a real "stumper".  How tall is the tall building?  Okay.  I'm going to say true, but the odds of it happening would be the same as someone having your exact DNA.

11. Animals can predict natural disasters

True or False

12. Water drains backwards in the Southern Hemisphere due to the Earth's rotation

True or False

13. Lightning never strikes the same place twice

True or False

14. Eating a poppy seed bagel mimics opium use

True or False (It will show as an opiate in an urinalysis.

15. There is no gravity in space

True or False

16. Chickens can live without a head

True or False - But they will run around for awhile after their heads have been removed.  Hence the saying: Running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.

17.  "God helps those who help themselves" is in the Bible.

True or False

18. Noah took two of every creature into the ark with him.

True or False - I'm saying false because I think this is a trick question.  I know he also took extra for food, etc.

19. You should pray with your eyes closed.

True or False -   I often pray while driving, but after running into a ditch, I always keep my eyes open now.

19. You should pray with your eyes closed.

True or False -   I often pray while driving, but after running into a ditch, I always keep my eyes open now.

Experience does that to a person.   :D :D

I'll post all of the answers after others have had a chance to answer them.   ;)

The media has a large effect on our everyday learning. The following is meant as a fun test to show just how this is true. Most of these are true or false but feel free to answer them with a written comment. I will post the answers to them after a few days.

1. What is the largest factors that determine heating or cooling of the earth?
            A. Manmade CO2
            B. Hydrogen and Oxygen
            C. The Sun
            D. Smog
            E. A & D
            F. B & C

C - THE SUN - Al Gore is full of hot air, so he does heat up his general area when he opens his mouth.

2. Arabs lived in Israel before the Jews did.

True or False

FALSE - Arabs are simply recent intruders making false claims.

3. Tea and Coffee remove necessary Iron from people.

True or False

FALSE - If this was true, I would be suffering from severe iron-deficiency. My doctor told me to drink all the coffee I want to, and I will. If iron becomes a problem, I'll eat a few old-fashioned pencils each week. The wood could serve as fiber, and I'd have to find out if there was any benefit in eating the erasers.

4. The Bible is Full of Contradictions

True or False

FALSE - The Bible doesn't have a single contradiction - NOT ONE! What people think are contradictions are caused by FAILURE TO RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE WORD OF TRUTH.

5. Divorce is a sin and forbidden in the Bible.

True or False

FALSE - However, much depends on what part of the Bible one is reading. Divorce is allowed only under extreme circumstances like adultery. Adultery was a death penalty offense at the time, so there was a "death do us part".   ;D   If one considers the clear intent of GOD, divorce should be an absolute last resort after much prayer and trying everything.

6. There is no substantiated evidence of the Exodus from Egypt.

True or False

FALSE - There's all kinds of evidence of this event and all other events in the Holy Bible.

7. Early Christians believed in a flat earth.

True or False

FALSE - As far as I know. If I'm wrong on this, I'll go ahead and take the prescribed punishment as long as it isn't more severe than whipping with wet noodles.

8. The Great Wall of China is the only manmade structure visible from space

True or False

FALSE - It would depend on what is being used in viewing. The license plate on a car can be read from space. The answer would be different if the viewing was with the naked eye only. However, I don't want my eye to be naked in space.
     ;D

9. Humans use only 10 percent of their brains

True or False

FALSE - If I remember correctly, the average percentage is much lower than 10 percent. For some folks, it would be close to ZERO.

10. A penny dropped from the top of a tall building could kill a pedestrian

True or False

TRUE - I think it would depend on the height of the building and many other circumstances. If you wanted to make sure, you would duct tape that penny to a large rock.    ;D

11. Animals can predict natural disasters

True or False

     TRUE - I think?

12. Water drains backwards in the Southern Hemisphere due to the Earth's rotation

True or False

FALSE - Unless you are standing on your head at the time.   ;D

13. Lightning never strikes the same place twice

True or False

FALSE - Lightning can strike wherever it wants to.

14. Eating a poppy seed bagel mimics opium use

True or False

TRUE - Eating a large quantity would cause some euphoria, but the main result would be to become very nauseated.

15. There is no gravity in space

True or False

TRUE - depending on where you are in space. Wearing Al Gore's gravity boots would also make a difference.   ;D

16. Chickens can live without a head

True or False

FALSE - Movement without a head is from nerves. This reminds me of the yelling that came from the kitchen the first time my wife cooked frog legs I had brought home from a hunt. Guys, it's wise to learn how to clean the nerves in the frog legs before giving them to your wife to cook. (Especially if she has access to sharp objects like knives.)

17.  "God helps those who help themselves" is in the Bible.

True or False

     TRUE

18. Noah took two of every creature into the ark with him.

True or False

     TRUE - By species.

19. You should pray with your eyes closed.

True or False

FALSE - We should always show as much reverence as possible when we pray, but the Holy Spirit of God lives within us. GOD allows HIS Children to pray 24/7 anywhere, including the middle of a battle.

Hello Pastor Roger,

I'm not quite awake, but I'm taking the test anyway. Besides, I didn't get a chance to study. It's for fun anyway and I'll try to give a few funny answers and give everyone a laugh.

Post by: Soldier4Christ on May 20, 2008, 08:58:31 PM
It's been a couple of days now so I'll post the answers. I really don't think that anyone can get all of the answers correct and much of that is because of the information put out by the media.

1. F. Both B & C. Hydrogen and Oxygen in the atmosphere forms water
droplets which has a greater effect in preventing more of the suns
heating effect than does any other element in the atmosphere. Out of
these two the Sun is the most significant, producing more heat on
earth when there is more sunspot activity. CO2, whether manmade or
natural (as they are the same gas) has an insignificant shielding
effect. Those who added G for God are also correct as God does use
His creation in the manner that He so desires to.

2. False. The land of Israel was inhabited by the Jewish people long
before the Arabs were a people. When it was first recognized as inhabited
by a "nation" it was by the Jews. The Bible is proven to be historically accurate
and there is much there to place the Jewish people in the Jerusalem area when
it was known as Salem and even before that.

3. False. Tea and Coffee have a substance in them that is known as an
Iron inhibitor. It inhibits iron that is consumed from plant sources
but does not "remove" Iron. Red meat as an iron source is not effected
by this.

4. False. Contradictions are just assumed by those that are
purposefully looking for them. When the Bible is correctly studied it
stands up as being totally agreeing with itself throughout the pages.

5. False. There are situations that provide for divorces in the Bible.

6. False. There has been ample geological and archaeological evidence
discovered that proves the Exodus did in fact happen as the Bible says
it did. There is also an extensive amount of such discoveries that
also prove the rest of the Bible as being historically correct.

7. False. While there may have been a few uneducated Christians that
may have fallen to this fallacy most of them knew that the earth was
round. Columbus' purpose was to sail in the opposite direction to
reach India (not knowing that the Americas existed). If he believed in
a flat earth he would also have believed that was not possible.
Scriptures also tell us in the Old Testament that Isaiah knew it was
round (See Isa 40:22 ) We also see throughout the book of Job where
Job hints at the idea the earth is round as the moon and sun were.
The flat earth idea was from a time frame where sailors went to sea and
did not come back home. The story was given  that they roamed too far
and went off the edge of the earth.

8. False. If they are in a low orbit around earth then they can see
the Great Wall but then at that altitude they can also see other
structures such as the Pyramid of Giza. There is no man made structure
that is visible from the moon.

9. False. This media darling has been around for at least a century.
Although sometimes we may wonder when it comes to certain individuals,
fortunately, it's just not true. MRI imaging clearly demonstrates--with
fancy colors no less--that humans put most of their cerebral cortex to
good use, even while dozing.

10. False. A penny isn't the most aerodynamic of weapons. A
combination of its shape and wind friction means that, tossed even
from the 1,250-foot Empire State Building, it would travel fast enough
merely to sting an unlucky pedestrian.

11. False. There is no evidence that animals possess a mysterious
sixth-sense allowing them to predict natural disasters. Their keen
senses of smell, hearing, and sharp instincts alone are enough to send
them scattering for the hillsides during a hurricane or tsunami. And
even so, animals often die during natural disasters, so if they do
have some sort of sixth sense, it's not worth much. Usually it is
because of their senses that are keener than humans that permits them to
detect some of these things occurring a little sooner than humans do.

12. False. Not only is the Earth's rotation too weak to affect the
direction of water flowing in a drain, tests you can easily perform in
a few washrooms will show that water whirlpools both ways depending on
the sink's structure, not the hemisphere.

13. False. In fact lightning favors certain spots, particularly high
locations. The Empire State Building is struck about 25 times every
year. Ben Franklin grasped the concept long ago and mounted a metal
rod atop the roof of his home, then ran a wire to the ground, thereby
inventing the lightning rod.

14. True. Purveyors of this urban legend call on a popular Seinfeld
episode for support. It turns out there's truth behind the comedy:
tests suggest ingesting just two poppy seed bagels can produce a
positive result for opiates on a drug screen.

15. False. Blame the term "zero-gravity" for this common
misconception. Gravity is everywhere, even in space. Astronauts look
weightless because they are in continuous freefall towards the Earth,
staying aloft because of their horizontal motion. The effect of
gravity diminishes with distance, but it never truly goes away. Oh,
and while we're at it, it's also untrue that space is a vacuum. There
are all kinds of atoms out there, albeit sometimes far apart (and this
thin gas adds to the collective gravity budget, too!)

16. True, and not just for a few minutes. A chicken can stagger around
without its noggin because the brain stem, often left partially intact
after a beheading, controls most of its reflexes. One robust fellow
lived a full eighteen months. Likely he was a real birdbrain, however.

17. False. As an exact quote it cannot be found in any version of the Bible.
This is actually a quote of Benjamin Franklin.

18. This is not entirely true or false.

Gen 7:2  Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the
male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male
and his female.
Gen 7:3  Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female;
to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.

19. False. Jesus prayed with His eyes open in the Garden of Gethsemane
(John 17). This idea is often portrayed to children though while in church
to help keep their minds off other things and reverently on the prayer.

Not only was it fun but it is also an opener showing us just how much the media has control of what we think we know to be true. Even "good sources" can sometimes get it wrong.

Now I do have to take up some disagreements :)

Original Question: 8. The Great Wall of China is the only manmade structure visible from space

8) As you said the great wall as well as pyramids are viewable from orbit.  You said nothing about the moon...so the question becomes debatable if you consider orbit being in space.

Original Question: 11. Animals can predict natural disasters

11) You are correct in your answer that there is no 6th sense.  But the questions does not ask that.  The question strictly talks aobut if animals can predict.  And if you study animals they use the senses they have and their instincts allow them to avoid some natural disasters.  As you stated they run of the hills in times of huricanes and such.  So this would be more true than false.

Those are the two that I had issues with.  Doing the other research I was able to agree completely :)

Title: Re: A Test Just For Fun
Post by: Soldier4Christ on May 23, 2008, 02:08:15 PM
The answer for 8 covers both situations ... in orbit around earth and from the moon ... just in case someone reads into the question which is bound to happen.

11. Yes, animals do sometimes run when there is a hurricane or such but it is usually right on them before they do so it does not qualify for being able to predict those disasters.
