Title: THE FIG TREE
Post by: dan p on May 01, 2008, 09:04:45 PM
In LUKE 13: 6-9 IS A VERY INTERESTING VERSES. Who are the 2 persons speaking, what do the three years represent, and the 1 yr represent, what does the fig tree represent,  and who is cut down, and can this be future ?

I don't think the years mean anything. I think the man is God, gardener is Jesus and fig tree is us. Jesus asks God to give us another chance

This is literal. The fig tree is Israel.  Or your can say that the fig tree is the Pharisees and the Sadducee's and the vineyard is Israel. Here the Father is talking to Christ. But some is wrong with the tree, it is  :)not producing any fruit. Then the Father says to the Son , cut it down. v7  Three yrs have past with one year to go. v8 then answering the Father , let me dig around and dung it , but would Israel listen, NO.   Viv9  And if it bear fruit good, bur if it doesn't , then cut it down.  This is just another proof that Israel was judged at Acts 7 and sentence was carried out at Acts 28:28 when Titus came at 70 AD and took Israel captive.  Luke 13: 6-9 is the second book that speaks of Israel being set aside , and the other book is Rom 11. This shows why miracles, signs and wonder, baptism ,the Law is no longer in effect, and Israel has been set aside for almost 2000 yrs. God is not dealing with Israel today , and if more students of the word see that , we will see with more clarity

I believe that the total of 3+ 1 = Christ ministry, but the leadership of Isreal , Pharisees and the Sadducees  rejected the baptism of John. In Matt 3: 8 when the Pharisees and Sadducees came to John's baptism's John rebuked them , and told them to bring therefore fruit meet for repentance, also look at v9. The Pharisees and Sadducees wanted to established their own righteousness.

Hello Brothers,

There are various interpretations of this parable, but I want to add something for thought that is quite beautiful.

First, Israel is the FIG TREE in GOD'S Vineyard.

Second, CHRIST is the vinedresser, but CHRIST is also the INTERCESSOR and MEDIATOR between GOD and man in this case. Israel didn't bear fruit after three years of CHRIST'S Public Ministry, so GOD wanted to cut the fig tree down. CHRIST asked for more time. What does Israel do in the fourth year? - CONSPIRE AND CRUCIFY CHRIST! So, Israel was cut off in the fourth year and set aside. It's important to note that GOD has not forgotten Israel. There is much more beauty that can be studied in terms of JESUS CHRIST - our Intercessor and Mediator. A beautiful second step in the study is the dying request of JESUS CHRIST on the CROSS:  "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

Brothers, the parables are a wonderful Bible Study because they relate to great TRUTHS. One of the greatest TRUTHS of today is the resurrection of JESUS CHRIST from the dead and our LIVING SAVIOUR still serving as our INTERCESSOR and MEDIATOR.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Hello Dan P,

Brother, you're most welcome. Thank you for posting the subject because it's a beautiful and uplifting Bible Study. As Christians, we should feel humility and thanks every day that JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF mediates and intercedes for us. Just think about how big and important this statement is. HE Loves us, died for us, and KEEPS those who are HIS. It's wonderful to be a Purchased Possession Belonging to JESUS CHRIST.

Love In Christ,
Tom
