Canada puts U.S., Israel on torture watchlist -CTV

OTTAWA, Jan 17 (Reuters) - An official Canadian government document has put both the United States and Israel on a watch list of countries where prisoners run the risk of being tortured, CTV television reported on Thursday.

The revelation is likely to embarrass the minority Conservative government, which is a staunch U.S. ally.

The document mentions the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba where a Canadian man is being held.

CTV said the document was part of a course on torture awareness given to Canadian diplomats to help them determine whether prisoners they visited abroad had been mistreated.

It said the document mentioned U.S. interrogation techniques such as "forced nudity, isolation, and sleep deprivation."

Other countries on the watch list include Syria, China, Iran and Afghanistan, CTV said.

A spokesman for Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier tried to distance Ottawa from the document.

"The training manual is not a policy document and does not reflect the views or policies of this government," he said.

The mention of Guantanamo Bay is particularly sensitive, since the Canadian government rejects allegations that a citizen may have been mistreated there.

Omar Khadr has been in the facility for five years. He is accused of killing a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan in 2002, when he was 15.

Right groups say Khadr should be repatriated to Canada, an idea that Ottawa firmly rejects.

A spokeswoman at the U.S. embassy said she was looking into the report. No one was immediately available for comment at the Israeli embassy.

The torture awareness course started after Ottawa was strongly criticised for the way it handled the case of Canadian engineer Maher Arar, who was deported from the United States to Syria in 2002.

Arar says he was tortured repeatedly during the year he spent in Damascus prisons. An inquiry into the case revealed that Canadian diplomats had not received any formal training into detecting whether detainees had been abused.

The survival of the nation of Israel is remarkable, especially when we consider many of the other ancient nations who have not survived and who have lost their national identity.  Consider, for example, the seven nations mentioned in Deuteronomy 7:1. Are any of these nations in existence today?? Nope!!

The fact that Israel has maintained its national identity after having its people scattered throughout the world for almost 1900 years demonstrates the providential hand and the loving care of God. God promised Abraham that out of him would come a great nation. God is not going to let that nation be destroyed. In Jeremiah 31:35-37 God said something very important about the nation of Israel. In this passage God tells us that one of three things must happen if the nation of Israel is to be destroyed. If none of these three things happens, then the nation of Israel will never be destroyed and will never stop being a nation.

Jeremiah 31:35-36  Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for a light by day and the fixed order of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, Who stirs up the sea's roaring billows or stills the waves when they roar--the Lord of hosts is His name: 36 If these ordinances [of fixed order] depart from before Me, says the Lord, then the posterity of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before Me throughout the ages.
The day-night cycle must be stopped, I'd like to see a man stop the sun from shining....

Jeremiah 31:37 Thus says the Lord: If the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, says the Lord.
Even if men build bigger and better telescopes, do you think they will ever be able to see all the stars in the universe? Another words, the heavens must be measured!!

Jeremiah 31:37 Thus says the Lord: If the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, says the Lord.
The foundations of the earth must be searched out.

God will not break these promises to Israel! If the enemies of Israel want to be successful, then they need to find some way to stop the sun from rising, they need to start building much better, bigger, telescopes, and they need to get busy digging to the center of the earth!!

Lower House of Jordanian Parliament condemns Israeli "aggression"on Palestinians
2008-01-17 21:33:07

AMMAN, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Lower House of Jordanian Parliament on Thursday condemned the continued Israeli "aggression" on the Palestinian territories, saying it was a "dangerous escalation against the Palestinian people."

The lower house said in a statement that "the aggression committed by the Israeli authorities against the Palestinians contravenes principles and resolutions of international legitimacy."

The lower house urged the international community and all peace loving forces that defend right, justice and freedom, to immediately intervene to stop the Israeli massacres.

It also expressed full support to efforts exerted by Jordan under the leadership of Jordanian King Abdullah II to send food, medicine and humanitarian aid to the Palestinians and provide medical treatment to the patients.

The lower house "is proud of the noble efforts exerted by King Abdullah at the Arab, Islamic, regional and international levels to support the Palestinians' right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital," the statement added.

More than 20 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli ground and air strikes since Tuesday. Most of them are members of Hamas armed wing, including the son of senior Hamas leader in Gaza Mahmoud al-Zahar.
