Title: Covetousness
Post by: phillip on December 18, 2007, 11:26:32 PM
Exodus 20:17 says, "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's sife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's."

Luke 12:15 says, "And He said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness;  for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."

Jesus Christ warned in both Scriptural passages about the sin of covetousness or greed.  Accumulation of material possessions whether money, property, or playthings can not give a person permanent peace and joy in this life nor in the life to come.  Jesus Christ warned about this sin in the parable of the rich man who sought to accumulate more barns and more fruits in the parable in Luke 12:16-21.

I Timothy 6:10 says, "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."  The love of money or covetousness is the sin, not having money itself!  If we have an abundance of money, we should our money to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and our fellow Christian brethren.
