Title: Is it biblical?
Post by: servant512 on November 05, 2007, 10:39:27 AM
I'm kinda bothered brothers and sisters in Christ.

Is it biblical to call a pastor "apostle"? or a church leader a prophet?
Im kinda new believer and as time goes by I encounter such things I am barely aware of as a Christian.

Thank you.

As for apostle it would depend on the usage of the word. If it is used in it's correct context it would not be wrong. An apostle is a delegate; specifically an ambassador of the Gospel, a messenger. If it used to place one above another, to make one more special than others, then it is totally wrong.

As for a Prophet. The word prophet means a foreteller inspired by God. Not all church leaders are prophets for God does not give the gift of foretelling the future to many. In fact true prophets have not been seen for many, many years. God gave the gift of prophecy to some because we did not have His word, the Bible, to guide us at that time. Today we have the word of God with us. Those that claim this gift for themselves are usually found to be false prophets.
