Title: Judo and College
Post by: Tibby on November 29, 2003, 04:28:26 PM
Did I win the Judo tournament? Nope.
Did I place? Nope.
Did I even go? Nope.

Some answered prayer, uh? Well, my prayers haven’t, but the prayers of everyone around me has. Most everyone has been praying I will actually STUDY for school. As I was packing up yesterday, I looked out at all the work I had to do for the end of the Semester, and realized I cannot afford to skip a whole day of work. I just let it all pile up. One thing is for sure, I’ve learned my lesson, time is precious. I missed one of the Biggest Tournaments in the country because I slacked off! Hard lesson learned. Study for things the day you go to class, start on research ASAP, stay awake in class. I have my work-out buddies making sure I do my work, haha.

So, Praise God, Prayers have been answered. Now, I’m off to study more :-\

;D

Haha, I shouldn't have said anything, now I'm never going to hear the end of it! ;D lol j/k

For real, how do you mean? The Archdeacon and the Bishop spend Their free time sword fighting in the Church Parking lot. ;D We are talking about a Province where the Bishops right hand man has maps of Middle Earth Framed and hung on his office wall, and a mini-recording studio in the youth room. This is a Church where, when one of the Priest was teaching a class on Saints for those new to Catholicism (There where a bunch), he continued to joke about Teaching St. Johnny Cash, because he is the only one you need! ;D Do you see a problem with Judo, or do you think Catholics see a problem with Judo?

Willow- Now you are going to make me cry... except for a few swords and maps of middle earth and recording studio's and praying to dead music stars, Catholics aren't all that odd.  ;) ;D Then again, maybe it is just us...

Ok.  Hol' up jus' one minute.  I missed somethin' here.  Tibby?  Are you studying to become a priest?

Title: Re:Judo and College
Post by: Tibby on December 17, 2003, 02:05:37 PM
That is why you need to stop by the Theology board more ;)

Kinda-sorta. I have to get my Bachelors first, so, yes and no. Yes, I’m studying, and at the same time I’m planning on getting my Priesthood, but no, I'm not directly "studying to be a priest" in the Seminary sense.

Title: Re:Judo and College
Post by: Symphony on December 17, 2003, 07:44:19 PM

Hmm, I got distracted by the "cares of this world" (for those who have read the parable of the sower--which obviously wouldn't include anyone studying for the ministry  ;D ::)).

Um, it's just that "judo" and, um, "priesthood" when combined, conjure up a slightly different image?  Maybe?

Sort of like "military intelligence", maybe?   ::)

PLUS, whatever you spend too much time learning, you tend to have to justify, which means you have to start using it somewhere.   ::)

Do you see where I'm going with this?

Yeah.. Kinda of... Not really...

I don’t see there being anything to justify. Correcting someone when you are challenged is one thing, justifying your hobby is another. Everyone has the right to have hobbies, whether you’re a High Schooler, a Priest, a Doctor, or whatever. I’m don’t think they should mix, no. I think Public office, Priest, politician, etc, has to keep a level of professionalism, yes. I’m not going to hold impromptu Classes on the Sanctuary floor. I'm not going to get mad at a church goer and Ogoshi him thru the window! But I don’t believe God bars us from having hobbies, because we are Christians, especially those in ministry, who no doubt need to unwind more then most! God made us, and the things we enjoy doing is part of us. It just so happens I enjoy rolling on the floor in thick, hemp bath robes ;)

Sooooooo...you'll be taking vows and oaths that priests usually take?  ???

Title: Re:Judo and College
Post by: Tibby on December 18, 2003, 09:50:04 AM
More of an anointing then an oath and vow, but Eventually, yes, I will do all the ceremonial stuff required to become a priest of my rite.

Well, there are a lot worse things Tibby could be doing...Maybe I've missed something, but I'm not sure why Judo is such a bad thing?  :(

Title: Re:Judo and College
Post by: Tibby on December 18, 2003, 09:37:10 PM
I think he just meant it was strange, as you think of priests as normally being meek, peaceful men of God, not Warriors. I don’t think he meant it was bad, I just think me meant it was a conflict of Stereotypes.

Again, this is what I think.

No, Tibby, I'm just yankin' yore chain, bro.   ;D

Judo would be nice to have in any situation.  No problem.

Jim Elliot, the missionary, along with three or four others, in Ecuador, marytyred by the Aucha(?) Indians in 1956, was a competition wrestler, I think...

That is Rome, and they only maintains this tradition for political reasons.  And they even have a small number of married priests, as ministers from other denominations wish to join, but already have wives. Most every other Catholic rite allows for married priests. As the Archdeacon once said “We need our wives to keep us in line”
;D

And if it where the case, I'd become a fundie before I gave up girls... ;D

Wwwwwhhhhhheeeeeeeewwwwww.   And here I was feeling all guilty about implying much earlier in a thread I can't remember because I'm old, that you and Willow aught to get together!

Speaking of being old and completely off the topic, my pastor says in the Sunday morning service yesterday that he bought his wife a Christmas present a month ago and hid it in one of his normal hiding places.  He now has 3 days to find it!  That made me laugh quite heartily.

The slap other people with fish, they slap eachother with fish, they heven drop massive fish on people as capitol punishment.  ;D ;D ;D ain't it great?

You wouldn’t let me marry one of your girls? lol. I wouldn’t let me marry one of my girls.

I hope I have all boys, teenage girls are just to hard to raise. Boys are no problem. Feed him, get him an Xbox, and money to go out with the boys after a game, and the most you have to worry about is that he doesn't distory his car, and the only reason you worry about that is because of the costs! Give me all boys!

Unless he is like Sapph... then it is a WHOLE different story ;D

Hahaha, you didn't have sisters, did you? ;D Yeah, the "You can't date till you are 30" thing was cute till about 13, then my sister would/does give my dad the ******** look. Why are chicks so cute when they are mad? It only makes them even more angery when you laugh, but you can't help it! ;D Enjoy these times. I have a 16 year old sister, ad you know those jokes about Teenage daughters? They arn't jokes... :-\ ;)

hahaha. We have the plan all worked out for when my friend newly born daughter gets to dating age. The Father and 4 of us, all in black suits and sunglasses, will force her boy into the back of the church, in a dark office. He will be sitting in a chair, facing away from the boy. He spins around and says in an Agent Smith voice "Mr. Anderson, how good of you to join us." With the other 4 of us around him, arms crossed. If the boy tries to say his name isn't Anderson, we only give him more of a hard time. We will play a little "Bad cop-bad cop" with him, who needs a good cop?

True story, when a friend of mine, Casey, went to go pick up his girlfriend, this being the first time he would meet her father, her father had all his guns out to clean them. I kid you not. ;D I sisters current boyfriend knows I'm into all kind of sport, sevreal of them Fighting arts, and my Father is a 21 year retired Army, who was in the Delta Force for 3 years, and was invited back twice. They arn't going to be doing anything anytime soon. ;)

I love the quote my Steve Martin on Father of the Bride  "You worry about them finding the the wrong guy who wants only one thing... and you know just what that one thing is, because you wanted that same thing at their age" ;D

So, Allinall, what have we learned today:

1. Teenage girls are evil (Of course, you no doubt learned this as a teenager...)

2. Start collecting guns NOW ;D

Women, can't live with 'um... yeah, that about covers it. ;)

*LOL*  Yup!  That bout covers all the bases!  On a serious note though, this staggers my mind at the responsibility God has laid on me to teach them how to respond righteously in every circumstance, in light of the God Who has given them all.  I can set rules (which in truth I've thought little about), but it's what I teach them before the rules that will make the difference.  "Like arrows in the hand of the hunter..."  Makes ya think.  Don't it "Mr. Anderson?" *L* Like that one.  May have to use it!
