I think it would be great if we had a user control panel-one of those onsite panels that keeps track of all the threads you've participated in. If you're no longer interested you can unsubscribe from the thread, but it keeps track of all the threads that have been posted in since your last visit. You can also go back to all the threads over a selectable period of time. Two days, three days, a week, two weeks, etc. It has a scroller so you can select a time period. And then you can simply click on the thread from the panel, and it takes you to the last page. That would save so much time sorting through the threads to find the right topics.

I think that I know what you are talking about. Much depends on the operating system, the bandwidth you have available, the money you have to spend, and obviously the software package. Some of the software is REAL expensive, and you have to consider the normal operating costs each month.

A new version of YABB SE is coming out soon. I don't know what all will be available or what ADMIN will choose to do. Stability of the specific software for your operating system is also a major concern.

I ran an old fashioned Bulletin Board System (BBS) for over 10 years. At the time, there were pay systems and free systems for the users. I opted for a free system and paid all the bills myself. Most of my software was freeware for non-commercial use, but I still had a small fortune tied up in various software. I tried to keep my operating expenses under $100 a month. I have no idea what the modern systems of today cost, but I doubt that I could afford it. You would probably be talking in the four figures per month category.

Who knows what the next version will offer?
