U.S. May Escort Ahmadinejad to Ground Zero
Talks Underway After Iranian Requests a Visit

In a move that has stunned New York, the Bloomberg administration is in discussions to escort the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to ground zero during his visit to New York next week, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said today.

The Iranian mission to the U.N. made the request to the New York City Police Department and the Secret Service, which will jointly oversee security during the leader's two-day visit. Mr. Ahmadinejad is scheduled to arrive September 24 to speak to the U.N. General Assembly as the Security Council decides whether to increase sanctions against his country for its uranium enrichment program.

Mr. Kelly said the NYPD and Secret Service were in discussions with the Iranian Mission about the logistics for the possible visit, and whether it will take place at all. He said that for safety reasons related to ongoing construction at ground zero Mr. Ahmadinejad would not be allowed to descend into the pit.

"There has been some interest expressed in his visiting the area," Mr. Kelly said. "It's something that we are prepared to handle if in fact it does happen."

Mr. Kelly said Mr. Ahmadinejad had not indicated why he wants to visit the site of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Several presidential candidates quickly condemned the proposed visit.

"It is an insult to the memories of those who died on 9/11 at the hands of terrorists, and those who have fought terrorism for years, to allow the president of the world's top state sponsor of terrorism to step foot at ground zero," a spokeswoman for Senator Thompson, Karen Hanretty, said. "Iran is responsible for supplying weapons and supporting extremist who are killing U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan to this very day."

A Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, called the plan "shockingly audacious."

"It's inconceivable that any consideration would be given to the idea of entertaining the leader of a state sponsor of terror at ground zero," Mr. Romney said in a statement. "This would deeply offend the sensibilities of Americans from all corners of our nation. Instead of entertaining Ahmadinejad, we should be indicting him."

A major American Jewish leader, Malcolm Hoenlein, said a visit by Mr. Ahmadinejad "would violate the sanctity of the sacred place and the memory of those who perished there."

Mr. Hoenlein, the vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, is a leading figure in organizing a protest against the Iranian leader Monday in front of the U.N.

He told The New York Sun that the Iranian president should be restricted to the immediate vicinity of the U.N. and should not be permitted to travel the full extent of the 25-mile radius that is normally allowed for foreign dignitaries attending meetings at the world body.

Iran has been called the world's "most active state sponsor of terrorism" by the U.S. State Department.

This has really got a lot of people upset calling it shameful, insane and a lot more I will never repeat. To allow this person to step on Ground Zero while Iranian bombs are killing American soldiers, while Iran is suspected by the 9/11 Commission to have facilitated the journeys of the 9/11 plotters and threatening to blow us all up is indeed an atrocity. It is like spitting in the faces of the US soldiers fighting in Iraq as well as all U.S. citizens.

Someone has some smarts anyway.

Officials reject Iran prez's bid to visit Ground Zero 
'Opposed by the NYPD on security grounds'

Officials on Wednesday decided to reject the Iranian president's request to visit ground zero just weeks after the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The decision came in a meeting that included representatives of the NYPD, the Secret Service and the Port Authority, according to police.

NYPD officials confirmed in a statement that earlier this month the department received a request from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to visit the World Trade Center site during the United Nations General Assembly.

A statement issued by the NYPD said, "Requests for the Iranian president to visit the immediate area would also be opposed by the NYPD on security grounds."

I have a hard time understanding why this is such a bad thing

1. It is believed that Ahmadinejad may have had something to do with helping in the atrocity of 9/11.
2. For a fact he is sending troops into Iraq to fight against U.S. and her allies.
3. He has stated that he will insure that worse than 9/11 happens to all Americans.

His going to a site where countless innocent people died on American soil and considering the situations above is like spitting in the faces of all of us and especially so to those that have died.

After some thought and playing a possible closer to home situation in my head, I would be abit annoyed.

Think on this a minute David. Those people killed in the Twin Towers on 9/11 were not just U.S. citizens. There were people from all over the world that were killed that day including Canadians. Why did it happen? Just because a group of people want to run the entire world and force us to abide by their religion. Yes, 9/11 happened on U.S. soil so U.S. citizens do take it personal but it does and will have a great impact on the entire world.

Ahmadinejad, (Imanutjob) would probably dance in the streets, if he was allowed. In celebration of the 9-11 attack.

He just should be thankful he is being allowed into the United States period.!!!!

In fact they should make him take off his shoes before he gets off the plane.

Ewwww  ...  that would contaminate our soil.   :o :o :o :o :o :o :o  :D :D :D :D

So would the soil of his shoes, so I guess the best solution would be to make him stand in a bleach filled pan and then in a boiling hot water pan  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
