Title: Some Ancient Biblical Lands, & Cities and Their Current Names Post by: Shammu on September 14, 2007, 03:25:31 AM Have you ever read some of the places in the Bible and wondered where they were located, today?
It only takes a few moments to realize there are places mentioned in the Bible that we cannot find on a map, today. Over the years, these places have changed names. You can tell how some of them have changed because they still look a little or sound a little like their ancient names. However, some of them don't look or sound anything like the original names. Please find below a list of ancient biblical countries and their current names. Below that list there is a list of ancient lands and where they are located. Please refer to this list as you study God's Word. Feel free to print it and use it as needed. Inevitably, you will find ancient lands in the Bible and want to know where they are today. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Magog = Russia Scythia = Southern Russia = The first century Roman historian Josephus said the "Magogites" were the peoples whom the Greeks called "Scythians." Scythians were a fierce, blood-thirsty civilization that settled north of the Baltic Sea in what is now Russia and the European republics of the former USSR. Also a bit of Turkey. Rosh = Russia Meshech = I believe this is Moscow. Tubal = Some Bible scholars say this refers to the city/region of Tobolsk in Russia along the Tobol River. Interestingly, in 1964, massive reserves of oil and gas were discovered in the Tobolsk region of Siberia and people now refer to the region as the "energy center of Russia." Persia = This was the official name of Iran until 1935, this also includes a part of Iraq. Cush = Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia and Yemen Put = Libya, and possibly Algeria and Tunisia Gomer = Turkey, but also possibly Germany and Austria Beth-togarmah = Armenia and the Turkic-speaking peoples of Central Asia Ammon, Moab and Edom = Jordan Aram = Syria Canaan = Northern Israel and Southern Lebanon Dedan and Sheba = Saudi Arabia Meshech and Tubal = Turkey "Many peoples with you" who will attack along "the mountains of Israel" Means, other countries will be involved in the coalition as well, notably countries that border the mountains of Israel. This includes Lebanon, and Syria. This list will be added to, modified, by the mods, as names of the Ancient Lands, and Ancient Cities are figured out. This is a labor of love for y'all.
