Alexandria, Sept. 4 (Petra)—His Majesty King Abdullah II held talks with Egyptian President Mohammad Hosni Mubarak on the latest Arab and regional developments, efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East and means to activate cooperation between the two countries in the various fields. During the talks held in the city of Alexandria, the two leaders expressed hope that efforts exerted to achieve peace in the region will lead to concrete results, mainly with regard to bringing the Palestinians and Israelis back to the negotiating table. The King and Mubarak said that the international peace meeting called for by the United States this fall, was a positive step to push the peace process forward and achieve just and comprehensive peace that brings about peace and stability in the region in line with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. During a lunch banquet, the two leaders also stressed the importance of good preparations for the meeting to ensure its success to put an end to the Palestinians-Israeli conflict and find a just solution to the Palestinian issue leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on all Palestinian lands. The King and the Egyptian president also voiced their support to steps taken by the Palestinian authority to build its national institutions and protect the interests and unity of the Palestinian people. On the situation in Lebanon, they called on all political forces in Lebanon to overcome their differences in order to achieve national reconciliation and avert any crisis that would threaten Lebanon and its sovereignty.
