Luke is about who followed Jesus. And John is about Who Jesus was. What do you think? Generally, Matthew presents Him as King; Mark presents Him as SERVANT, and Luke as SON of MAN. There is a lot of overlap in the synoptics so I am not sure exactly how they can be divided other than the above. aw Title: Re:The Four Gospels Post by: Allinall on November 16, 2003, 02:12:03 AM I like it! I've always enjoyed the understanding that Matthew was written to the Jews, Mark to the Romans, Luke to the Greeks, and John to the believer. Interestingly enough, the synoptic gospels were written relatively close together filling the much needed account of Christ, Who He was, What He did and said, and how each is to be understood...then comes John. He writes his account many years later. Matthew and Luke begin with Jesus' birth. Mark, with His ministry. John begins with He Who has no beginning.
I also like how John's gospel is delivered! I personally feel that John was Jesus' best friend. I know many may scoff at this as God is not a respecter of persons, but we must remember that Jesus was fully human as well. Would He have ignored the wisdom of "two are better than one?" Doubtful. I even think there are many evidences of this. For one, John refers to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved. I don't think this simple modesty or writting style. It speaks of a personal relationship - the basis from which John presents his account. He also, with Peter, are the only two to follow Jesus after He is taken to before the Sanhedrin. He alone is the only disciple to show up at the cross. And what does Jesus', the Son of God say to him? Does He rebuke his sin? Nope. He says "John, take care of my mom." That just blows me away. There are other reasons, but now I ramble... ;D Anywho...I like it! Title: Re:The Four Gospels Post by: aw on November 16, 2003, 08:36:42 AM Yeah and right-on with John. He was/is the the"agape love" revelator. What I see in John is the first presentation of the deeper meanings of "grace" which were later revealed to Paul and consequently the CHURCH.
