Scientist call for Earth 'backup' on moon
'Armageddon insurance' to protect against wholesale loss of human achievement

Scientists hope to put a library of human civilization on the moon in case of a cataclysmic, civilization-annihilating event. It would protect against the wholesale loss of human achievement.

To protect against a nuclear bomb, a plague, a natural disaster, an asteroid collusion or some other doomsday event, scientists are lobbying to have a reserve library of human scientific and cultural achievements built and maintained on the moon.

Jim Burke, a retired long-time NASA expert now working at the International Space University in Strasbourg, France, warned that a doomsday asteroid or comet could annihilate global civilization and that something should be done to insure against the wholesale loss of human achievement.

Burke suggests a project to create a "lunar biological and historical archive," which would include samples and a record of human scientific and cultural achievements.

The idea for what Burke calls a "space-age Noah's Ark" is one shared by the Alliance to Rescue Civilization (ARC), which also seeks to include backups of Earth's biological heritage and diversity (scientific jargon for evolution) in a permanently manned lunar facility.

"In the event of a global catastrophe, the ARC facilities will be prepared to reintroduce lost technology, art, history, crops, livestock, and, if necessary, even human beings to the Earth," Ropert Shapiro, an ARC co-founder and biochemist at New York University, told the National Geographic News earlier this month.

NASA already has plans to establish a permanent outpost on the moon by 2024. It also has programs researching how to react to dangers posed by asteroids and comets using, for example, nuclear-tipped space vehicles.

My comments in red.

When it comes time even such an outpost as this will not be a "protected site" from God's hand.

Rev 6:15  And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
Rev 6:16  And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Rev 6:17  For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Jer 23:24  Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

Amen to that.

But how funny is the whole idea.  Basically lets put a time capsule on the moon of mankind.

Outcome 1) Man is wiped out by an asteroid colliding with earth.  Aliens come along from a distant star system.  Discover this capsule, open it and read it and toss it because it tells them of another race that died out that was so technologically inferior that we would have equated them to neaderthal.

Outcome 2) Earth is hit with asteroid that sends us into another ice age or similar species destroying age.  A few humans survive.  The water is tainted with a fall out from the asteroid.  The humans are anguished knowing full well that there is enough technological knowledge on the moon that could save them and the rest of humanity....but they die of thirst.

Outcome 3)  The rapture comes.  And all those folks are sitting in Hell looking out going..."a capsule on the moon...how dumb was that?"  Just one more act to show how man thinks so much of themselves to say that God could not exist, that it was all a freak of nature that life started...but you know what, just in case that freak of nature happened in another part of the universe lets leave a record of our existance...I am sure that someday someone will come along and find it.
