Title: Evangelizing the JWs(hehe) Post by: Symphony on November 15, 2003, 02:30:07 PM Maybe the title speaks for itself. 8) Title: Re:Evangelizing the JWs(hehe) Post by: ollie on November 15, 2003, 10:34:19 PM Maybe the title speaks for itself. 8) How about this one? 1914 "we present proofs that the setting up of the kingdom of God is already begun .. and that the 'battle of the great day of God Almighty' (Rev. 16: 14) which shall end in A.D. 1914 with the complete overthrow of earth's present rulership .. The gathering of the armies is plainly visible from the standpoint of God's word." {TIAH 101} [TIAH 1915 ed contains '1915' instead of '1914'] 1914 ".. the overthrow of the professedly Christian kingdoms, really 'kingdoms of this world', and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God in the earth at A.D. 1914 .." {TKIC 1905 ed 126} http://members.aol.com/beyondjw/bj.htm Title: Re:Evangelizing the JWs(hehe) Post by: Symphony on November 16, 2003, 12:36:58 PM Thank you, Ollie. That's a good one. I'd forgotten that. Yes, it makes me wonder, why would you want to be a part of something with that kind of a heritage? Hmmm. 1914. I guess that date has sorta come and gone. But there are some things I like about the JWs. So I was thinking as Christians we ought to be focussed on absorbing and "showing them a still better way" (I Cor. 12:31), with a twinkle in our eye. That's the one prominent thing I've noticed, as your mention there suggests, the combative and even vindictive ambitions of the basic JW doctine. In other words, more often than not, the ultimate upshot of the JW argument seems to be one of vindictivness--as if we should be just chomping at the bit, waiting for that final retribution on all mankind. As opposed to the message of the Gospel, that is, the "good news". I don't think I've ever experienced a JW coming to our door(and that has been numerous times) and wanting to just share the Good News of the gospel... Title: Re:Evangelizing the JWs(hehe) Post by: ollie on November 19, 2003, 07:31:42 PM I agree. They are very dedicated in getting out there to tell people of a world that is to be. They usually start with a desertation on how "awful todays world is and don't you desire something better"?
They once told me that there is always an earth in the Bible. There is never a place in scriptures where ther is not an earth. They were right. However they get confused over what is spiritual and what is physical. They also seem to down play Jesus. They are warm, friendly, caring and want you to have the word that will get you into that new world with Jesus. They want you to be there also. They display much love and caring in this respect. They are hard workers at what they define as evangelizing. I don't think they have a clue as to what the gospel of Christ is really. The watchtower has not had it revealed to them yet. |
