Title: And how was *your* day, pray tell?
Post by: Whitehorse on November 15, 2003, 01:23:29 PM
This wasn't today, but I thought you'd enjoy it anyway.

Okay. So I'm outside, looking to trim the hedge. I've got this trimmer I've never used before. I pop in the power cord, press the button, and BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Beauty! Okay. So I start to trim the hedge, and....nothing! I push the button again. Nothing. I wiggle the cords, get a little brrrrr but then nothing. So I finally figure out the cord is loose. Electrician's tape to the rescue. Crams the cord right in there.

I'm back in business for 5 minutes. Then...nothing. I check for signs of a short, dink around for ten minutes trying to figure out why, when I notice a second miniscule button. Apparently you have to have both pressed at the same time, so sometimes I was accidentally hitting it and sometimes not. Okay. Got that worked out. I start to trim, and a branch hits me in the face, narrowly missing my eye. Hm. Better see if we have any eye protection. Dink around for another ten minutes looking for them, and by now I'm getting a little "hedgy."

Okay. Eyeware in place, cord jammed in tight with tape, eyeware on, and I find the cord isn't long enough. So I go back in to get another cord. Same brand as the first, both brand new, but the two will not fully connect. There's at least a quarter inch of the prongs exposed. Jam it as much as I can-nothing. I try wrapping it with tape, but find it uneffectual. I go get a third cord, have pronblems with it, too, and finally note that there is a bit of plastic inside the plug that is preventing complete connection. Still, the blue cord is bettter than the other orange one, so I reem on that puppy and somehow get a fit.

Okay. Back in business. Triple chord, eyeware, both buttons, and the cord jammed in tight!!! I press the botton(s) and get the thing humming, and I'm swinging that thing with jubilee.

Look!
At!
THis!

Can!
Finally!

I got to watch a good friend and great Christian leader explain civility to barbarians thinking about becoming respectable members of the community, and they actually got it!

…um… I mean, I went to see the Bishop explain liturgy to Fundamentalist thinking about switching to Catholicism, and they understand what he was talking about and liked it!

Just kidding guys… Anyways, I had a blast. The first time I ever heard someone “amen” the Apostles Creed. lol ;D

Good day, and no yard work. ;D

This got me to thinking of a rather humorous situation that happened to me...twice.

Once about four years ago, I signed up for a sweepstakes to win a free Blazer.  I get a call at work not long thereafter!  Yippee!!!! They ask what my annual salary was - and say I didn't make enough to win the free Blazer.  Now if that don't just take the wind out of your sails...how 'bout this one?

About a month or so ago, my mortgage company calls me up with an offer for accidental death insurance.  Namely, if I die accidentally, they pay off my house!  Pretty cool huh?  It takes X amount of dollars added to my mortgage payment to cover the policy.  Unfortunately, I don't have X amount of dollars to contribute!  Sooooo...I don't make enough money to die accidentally!  Yup.  Rots to be me.

But I am saved by grace!  :)

[Sooooo...I don't make enough money to die accidentally/i]

Now isn't that the truth about insurance, All.  It seems to me that subconciously, when we take out insurance on ourselves, we feel we then have to justify the expense, so we go out deliberately taking risks that we wouldn't otherwise take, just to justify the premiums(subconciously).  A similar principal I"ve heard about small plane crashes.  A higher percentage of pilots are successful professional types--doctors, lawyers, etc.  They subconciously, b/c of their success, take greater risks.  This seems to be reflected in the higher fatality rate among them as pilots.
