Jul 11 2007 2:21PM Associated Press YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) Hundreds more dead and dying fish have been discovered in Yellowstone National Park, as a result of high water temperatures and low stream flows. A Park Service biologist found hundreds of dead fish Monday along Pelican Creek, which drains into Yellowstone Lake. Last Friday, several hundred dead rainbow and brown trout were spotted along the Firehole River. Officials say low flows and high daytime temperatures warmed the water beyond what the fish could tolerate. Late last week, Yellowstone officials asked anglers to stop fishing on rivers at lower elevations in the afternoons, when temperatures are hottest and fish are most vulnerable to stress. Yellowstone spokesman Al Nash says the park will continue to monitor the situation. Heat harms hundreds more fish in Yellowstone (http://www.kxmb.com/Sports/Outdoors/142793.asp) |
