Title: Mack the Knife Post by: Tibby on November 10, 2003, 09:20:44 AM Me and some friends where talking about what makes a band/song sinful. We are agreed it is content that is sinfull. So, I started thinking on the way home. Now I have a question. A 3 word Question. Mack the Knife? It is a song about a blood thrist hitman. Does that make the song, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Louis Arnstrong, to name a few, are on the same level with Marylon Mason? If it is content that makes the music bad, wouldn't that make the Beach Boys bad for singing about Sex, drugs, and Street racing?
Of course content plays into it, so, where does that put the oldies? The so called "Holsome" music? I mean, even in the 50's. You can try to hide it in adstracts like they did, but the songs where about one thing, and we all know what that one thing is. It is like Rick and Lucy, they slept in differenmt beds, but because of the kid, some things have been implied. Is this ok? Title: Re:Mack the Knife Post by: KiwiChristian on November 10, 2003, 03:23:06 PM I have one thing to say about this and I hope it does not start up a debate:
1 Corinthians 10 31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. To me, if a song is singing about someone being murdered and since God's word also says about how we should not take an innocent life, then why would we want to listen to it? I guess what I am saying is that if the music we listen to does not glorify or give praise to God then we need to question why we are listening to it in the first place. NB: this is only my personal view I dont' expect anyone else to feel the same way. Title: Mack the Knife Post by: Brother Love on November 12, 2003, 06:49:29 AM Lucy, I am home :)
