Lawsuit against public school district alleges discrimination against Christian club

The Gadsden City (Alabama) School District is being accused of discriminating against a Christian club for students. Liberty Counsel has filed a federal lawsuit against the district on behalf of Child Evangelism Fellowship of Alabama (CEF).

Several years ago, CEF representatives who run the after school "Good News Clubs" contacted Gadsden school officials, asking for permission to start a club. According to CEF officials, the school superintendent refused to discuss the issue, and stonewalling tactics continued, leading up to the lawsuit.

Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver says it is outrageous that school officials have refused to meet with CEF representatives. "We are not going to take inaction, delay, or just refusal to respond to censor the Good News Clubs and deprive these young children of the gospel," says Staver. "Speech is important, especially when it's the gospel."

The Christian attorney urges Christians clubs facing similar situations to take prompt action. "For a couple of years now, the Good News Clubs have not been permitted in these school districts simply because officials have censored their message," he shares. "Schools ought to allow Good News Clubs -- and the Constitution requires it."

Liberty Counsel has fought cases of discrimination against Good News Clubs all across America. The clubs are free, after-school programs for children between the ages of 5 and 12.

Wow that is just down the road.  And I have not even heard of it here

I just have one question for some of the older folks on the forum:  can you imagine what would have happened 50 years ago with something like this happening?

In fact, there are tons of things that would have been dealt with harshly 50 years ago. The reality is that Islam, satan worshipers, and just about anything you can think of have FREEDOM and Christians don't. The liberty and freedom that Christians fought for have been taken away and given to others. I did say that correctly - Christians fought for themselves and other Christians to secure what we have in this part of the world. To make things completely clear - it was Christian armies fighting for a Christian nation.

Recorded history is just as completely clear, and that's why liberals have changed the history books used in our schools. In fact, liberals hate history, but it's preserved for all who want it to study the TRUTH. It's sad that many of our young people don't know the TRUTH because it's been withheld from them. It's shocking to get the TRUTH, but the TRUTH is beautiful. I'm talking about JESUS CHRIST and the CROSS being the very core of life. There was no shame at all in GOD and HIS WORD - just the opposite. GOD and HIS WORD were everywhere and every place, including our schools.

The devil and his hosts have stolen a way of life - plain and simple. NOW, we must fight for every small piece that's left or that will also be lost. The assault has already started on our churches, and we should already know about the ongoing assault against our homes. This is simply the sad truth, and it does appear to be the end days of this Age of Grace. I've said this before, but I want to say this again: NOTHING relieves Christians of their responsibilities until JESUS CHRIST takes us home.
