Title: Ephesians 5:15-17
Post by: LoggedintoJesus on November 08, 2003, 06:22:36 PM
Eph 5 v17"Wherefore be not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is."

I have a question, just how much of the will of the Lord can we know, and how much are we accountable to knowing?
We all have different levels of understanding, but we are told to be wise knowing the will of the Lord.
I think that if we study the word, and are led by the spirit, that we should know the will of the Lord as we need to know it.But it's not always so easy.Any thoughts on this?

Neat how the Lord works!
Jesus said" I am the way ,the truth, and the Life."

If we really know him , and are abiding in him as we should be according to John 14.

John 14 v26 he shall teach you ALL things (Holy Ghost)

John 15 v15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for servants knoweth not what his Lord doeth:but I have called you friends; for ALL things that I have heard of my father I have made known unto you.

Its our  relationship with God through the Holy Spirit that gives us the proper understanding of ALL things.

If we are wrong in our understanding of the scriptures, I would say , Go to the source, and make sure our RELATIONSHIP with the LORD is proper ,and that we are abiding in Him. If we are we shall be led into ALL TRUTH, thats His promise.

But we must read the scriptures in their proper context, this is where many get misled. If we misunderstand the truth, be sure it will affect our abiding in Christ. So then we must go back to the source of our strength, which is the grace of God.
And allow Him to teach us rather than the explaination of men about the scriptures.

So many books on the Bible. but why not read the Bible and let the author that is with you open it up to you?

I dont have al the answers , but I know someone that does. And He is able to do more than we can ask.We often are not ready to understand many things, but that should not stop us from learning.

We can learn in 1hr through the Holy Spirit and the reading of the Bible, more than 1 year of seminary! Not to discredit seminaries, but it must be the Holy Spirits teaching, or it's just vainity, knowledge that will vanish away. But learning from the Spirit of truth is real growth, that will endure.
So I see that our understanding of the Lords will is as we have learned from Him, He alone can make us wise.
Because He is WISDOM.

This is an awesome subject, I must ask Him more! ;D ;D ;D

We could start making a list for each other. If anyone is interested, I will begin and we can see how far folks wish to go.

"In everything give thanks for this IS THE WILL OF GOD in Christ Jesus concerning you." (1 Thess 5:18)

I did this today in a situation where my son had been involved in a car accident and was truely blessed.

I heard J. V.Magee on the radio speak on these very verses.
It was a good message. His main point was being filled with the spirit daily.

The text in consideration deals with moral evils. Concerning them we are to understand how God would have us react to them; but in regard to the will of God in general, My favorite verses concerning His will are these:

  1. He works all things according to the counsel of His own will (Eph. 1:11), the word "counsel" signifying that will of His which is in accord with all His wisdom.

  2.  This is the will of God, even your santification.(1Thess 4:3). Since He works all things in accord with His will, our sanctification is certain. It is His purpose to (think about this)
conform us to the image of His own dear Son. That will not be completed until we have been glorified, but even now, our Father is moving us in that direction. All those in Zion go from strength to strength. He makes us more and more despise the remains of evil still with us, makes us long more and more for progress in righteousness. Someday His work in us will be complete--"Thou shalt call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sin." As the song goes, "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!!!!"

Ralph How did you know that song at the end of your post is a special one to me? ;D

I like in the prayer that the Lord said to pray in like manner to his disciples  " that thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven"
Matthew 6 v 10
