Just about everyone knows the Lord's Prayer. People can say with ease. But how many people have thought
about what it means? These up coming devotions will briefly examine this prayer. This first section deals briefly
with prayer. Please see attachment.

We pray the Lord's Prayer with reverence at our church each Sunday.  It truly is a beautiful and most meaningful prayer if people will truly pray each sentence from the heart.

I posted this in a different thread in reference to the Lord's Prayer. 

The Lord's Prayer as it is called is the guidelines to be used for our prayers.  We know that this is not to be our prayer word for word....and it is pretty safe to assume that when Jesus went up the mount and prayed all night that He did not go up there and repeat this prayer over and over.  But what Jesus did was give us the "outline" if you will for our prayers.

One thing to also note is that God created prayer so that we would take time to talk with Him.  There are times that I will go out back and just sit and talk with God just like I was talking to my wife or a friend.  He is my father after all.  But let us take a look at the outline and see what we have.

"Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallow be thy name
* We start off with an acknowledgment of who God is and that He is our Father.

Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven
* We understand that it is God's will that we are asking for.  It is the Will of God that we are seeking.  And we acknowledge that it is His will that is to be done on earth just as he is sovereign in Heaven as well.
 
Give us this day our daily bread
* Jesus prayer did not ask for steaks and lobster.  Jesus asked that God provide us with what we need.  We do not need all the extra's that we have come to accept.

And forgive us our tresspasses
* We bring out the sins we have committed and ask for forgiveness for those sins.  Part of repentance is recognizing the sins that were committed and acknowledging them and being repentant of them.

As we forgive those who tresspass against us
* Jesus prayed for those around Him.  We pray for those that are lost around us, we pray for God's hands to intervene.

Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
* We pray for God's help to keep us from sinning.  Show us the wisdom and guidance we need to continue in His will.

For thine is the kingdom, power and glory forever
* Again we recognize that everything belongs to God.  And we want to do all that we can to glorify God.

Amen"

Maybe that will help.  Hope so.

This is a beautiful example of prayer, and this portion of Scripture is a wonderful Bible Study.

I want to add we also have time for silent prayer at our church and the pastors also pray a pastoral prayer.  The most important thing is that the Lord God knows our hearts as we come before Him.
