Title: Another milestone for the JESUS Film Post by: Soldier4Christ on July 25, 2007, 07:27:10 AM Another milestone for the JESUS Film
The most translated film in history has reached another milestone. The JESUS Film recently reached its 1,000th translation when the movie was translated into the Lanka Kol language, a people group numbering more than one million in India. First shown in U.S. theaters in 1979, the JESUS Film has been viewed by more than five billion people worldwide. Greg Gregoire, chief of staff of the JESUS Film Project, says the movie is one of the most effective evangelistic tools. "When you get that kind of exposure and the ability to speak in the heart language of that many people, just incredible things happen," Gregoire shares. He explains that currently there are more than 1,500 organizations, mission groups, and local church organizations using the JESUS Film around the world, as their primary evangelism and church-planting tool. The Project's spokesman explains the translation strategy. "We set a preliminary goal of translating the film into every language of the world with more than 100,000 speakers," he says. Gregoire explains that target may change as various ethnic groups increase or decrease in number due to their economic and political situations. The JESUS Film Project is a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, and they plan to continue translating the film into 500 new languages. |
