Title: Windows XP Post by: Symphony on October 30, 2003, 08:55:17 PM I'm new to 'puters, and the spoiled little baby has Windows XP Home Edition. ;D
I'm listening to Kim Komando radio program when I can. But til i isolate the problem, when it says Disk Cleanup, and click on it, it goes right into the program, starts running it, pops up a window that says it has to check for something(I can't remember), showing one of those grid bars. The grid bar starts to fill in, showing progress, but stops less than half way through, while I can hear it continuing to run inside the 'puter. I've tried it several times. Each time it does this. This last time, I let it just run--and it ran for six hours like that, 'til I just turned it off. I'd press the "Cancel" button, but it wouldn't respond to that. I had to turn the whole puter completely off. Kim said on her program it's suppose to pop up some windows allowing me to pick and choose what files or programs it's suppose to "cleanup". Mine never offers me any option. It just jumps right in, show that progress grid bar, which stops under half way, the program continuing to run, apparently indefinitely. So after six hours, I just turned off the comuputer, then next day went right on into the other maintnenance things-- disk error check, which ran fine, and defrag, which ran fine. What's wrong with my Cleanup, though? ??? Title: Re:Windows XP Post by: Tibby on October 30, 2003, 09:05:06 PM Windows XP Home Edition. That is your problem. More specifically: Windows XP Home Edition. I have home on my desktop, it is CRAP! My laptop is running Pro, it is great, but XP home is a mess. :) Title: Re:Windows XP Post by: Forrest on October 31, 2003, 12:59:35 AM Sorry Symphony I don't know much about puters either, I have ME on my laptop, my dad has a desktop it had XP-Home and he had lots of trobule with it ending up having it wiped and 98 put on. Oklahoma Howdy to Symphony, Cleanup doesn't do Windows. ;D ;D I'm sorry, someone had to say it. ;D ------------------------ Write down whatever message cleanup gives you, specifically error numbers or codes. Microsoft has a pretty good on-line help system that you can search by key word and many other ways. You probably even have a menu command to take you directly there while you are on-line. You should also have help files already on your computer to try first. If the answer you are looking for isn't there, it should give you the option to try the larger on-line help. I hope this helps. (http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/joysong/smack.gif) It turned out that the guy who put it on our computer was a "program pirate", and the thing was messy anyway, so we've got an older version.
