'Rolling Thunder' Bikers Roll Into Washington for Annual Rally

Motorcycle riders from across the United States have come to the nation's capital for an annual rally on Memorial Day weekend.

Participants in the "Rolling Thunder" event Sunday draw attention to the health concerns of military veterans and to the issue of military personnel missing in action.

The bikers, many of them veterans of the Vietnam war, gathered at the Pentagon this morning to ride to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington.

President Bush greeted the leadership of Rolling Thunder at the White House Sunday. On Monday, Memorial Day, the president takes part in a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

The holiday pays tribute to fallen American service members. The Memorial Day weekend also is seen as the unofficial start of summer in the United States, with people often celebrating with picnics and other outdoor activities.

I see them each year, and they are an awesome sight!  Unfortunately, one of the members was killed on the highway returning home.  I pray the Lord will comfort his family.  See details below.

Motorcycle Crash Kills Veteran

A Navy veteran who had come to Washington on his motorcycle for Memorial Day was killed yesterday when he lost control of the bike and was thrown from it on Interstate 270 in Rockville, Maryland State Police said.

Donald C. Marshall, 60, a longtime trucker and grandfather of two, was returning home to Tipp City, Ohio, on his Harley-Davidson when the crash occurred about 5 p.m., a friend said.

The friend said Marshall had come to participate in Rolling Thunder activities, which brought thousands of motorcyclists to Washington to support past and present members of the military.
