Hong Kong Authorities Ponder Labeling Bible 'Indecent'

The Good Book isn't clean enough for Hong Kong.

Residents of the city are calling for an "indecent" label for the Bible, saying the text contains passages that are too gory for young eyes, Reuters reports.

At least 838 complaints had been registered Wednesday with the city's Television and Entertainment Licensing authority after an anonymous Web site, truthbible.net, said the Bible "made one tremble" with its sexual and violent content, including rape and incest, the news agency reports.

The Chinese city has been debating the merits of indecency since a recent sex column published in the Chinese University's "Student Press" magazine asked readers about their violent sexual fantasies.

That column was branded as indecent by the Obscene Articles Tribunal.

If the Bible is labeled indecent in Hong Kong, people over the age of 18 will be the only ones able to purchase the book, and it would have to be sold with a warning label wrapped around the book.

The Web site truthbible.net already includes an English-language warning: "Legal Disclaimer Warning: This Web site contains Bible material which may offend and may not be distributed, circulated, sold, hired, given, lent, shown, played or projected to a person under the age of 18 years."

But the prospect of the underage Bible ban has local ministers scoffing.

"If there is rape mentioned in the Bible, it doesn't mean it encourages those activities," Reuters quoted Reverend Wu Chi-wai, Protestant minister, as saying. "It's just common sense ... I don't think that criticism will have strong support from the public."

I doubt they will look for this type of warning for the koran. They would not want to upset anyone who is muslim.

Hello Dreamweaver,

Brother, it's sad to say that most of the world wants the HOLY BIBLE gone in one way or another. We are even hearing about beginning attempts to get the HOLY BIBLE out of the way in this part of the world.

The devil absolutely hates GOD'S WORD because of the GREAT POWER GOD'S WORD has on the lives of people who read it and hear it. That POWER is just as GREAT or GREATER now than it's always been. "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the WORD of GOD."

Those of us who physically live much longer will see more and more assaults against GOD'S WORD. We will also see more assaults against religious freedom and our way of life. I'm talking about Christians. The persecution of Christians in this part of the world has already started, and things are sure to get much worse if the last days of this Age of Grace are here. Persecution of Christians in many parts of the world is more and more amounting to a death sentence. Prison, beatings, and torture have been common in many places for years, and things are getting worse. There could come a time when all of us will be given a choice of either denying CHRIST or being killed. I pray that I will give the message of JESUS CHRIST and the CROSS if that time comes during my short physical life on this earth. This world is NOT my HOME. My CITIZENSHIP is in HEAVEN with JESUS CHRIST for ETERNITY. I won't be needing my broken body of clay for eternity. GOD will give all of us a glorified Body at HIS Chosen Time.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, our time here on earth will be short. Let us all try to make it count for the Glory of GOD alone. Let us all remember the teachings of Paul and want to fight a good fight, run a good race, finish our course, and one day hopefully hear from the MASTER, "Well done good and faithful servant."

Love In Christ,
Tom

Ephesians 6:10-17 NASB  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Galatians 6:9-10 NASB  Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

Psalms 116:12-13 NASB  What shall I render to the LORD For all His benefits toward me?  I shall lift up the cup of salvation And call upon the name of the LORD.

Matthew 6:19-21 NASB  "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;  for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 18:20 NASB  "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."
