The yearbook faculty adviser says the word God could not be printed because of concerns over separation of church and state. A student at Higley High School wants to know why th word "God" was edited out of his biography in the school's yearbook. Anthony Sciubba was one of 13 seniors to receive a special full page tribute in the yearbook. A text accompanying a photo of Sciubba, shown wearing his letter jacket and holding a Bible, said that he owed all of his success to others. But Sciubba said that he specifically credited God. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ACLU Files Suit Against ECISD 05/16/07 Breaking News Odessa, TX - The ACLU of Texas has filed a federal lawsuit against the Ector County Independent School District on behalf of eight parents who say "the Bible course offered in their local high schools violates their religious liberty by promoting particular religious beliefs to children in their community." According to the ACLU, the course "gets a grade of F for failing to comply with the Constitution." Doug Hildebrand, on of the parents bringing the lawsuit said, "Religion is very important in my family and we are very involved in our religious community. But the public school are no place for religious indoctrine that promotes certain beliefs that not all the kids in the school share..." The lawsuit asks the ECISD School Board "refrain from teaching the Bible course or any course like it would unconstitutionally promote religion generally and particular religious beliefs specifically."
