jpost staff and ap, THE JERUSALEM POST May. 14, 2007 Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was rushed to the hospital Sunday after a blood clot was discovered in his brain, and is now in a coma, the Palestinian news agency Ma'an claimed. According to the report, Gaddafi's children, who reside in Europe, were recalled to his bedside in Tripoli. "The condition of the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is very serious and he was brought unconscious to the hospital," the agency reported. The report cites a European source and has yet to be confirmed. Recently the relations between Gaddafi and the Arab League have been on edge. Gaddafi did not attend the Arab League summit in Riyadh this year because of his spat with Saudi King Abdullah from 2003, which included claims that he tried to assassinate the Saudi monarch. Abdullah didn't attend the previous summit in Khartoum because of Gaddafi's presence and close relations with Sudan. With regards to the Israel-Palestinian conflict, Gaddafi promoted a one-state solution plan, which he termed 'Isratine.' This he hoped would be taken more seriously by the Arab League, instead of the current two-state solution being pushed by Saudi Arabia. Gaddafi's antics at the summits are famous. He has more than once walked out of meetings, made derogatory remarks to Arab leaders and ridiculed Arab policy in general. He called the Palestinians and Israelis 'stupid,' and said former prime minister Ariel Sharon was a Palestinian agent since he created the suicide bombers.
