The versions you see elsewhere are derivatives of the original Hebrew name Yeshua (what we would call "Joshua"). The Latin "Jesu" I believe is where the translaters of the early English versions derived the translation "Jesus." Regardless, there is no more beautiful, more commanding, or more worshipful name under heaven! :)
Title: Re:Names of Jesus Post by: Broken on November 06, 2003, 07:35:22 AM Jesus would have ended up in English as "Joshua" except that the biblical translators decided to translate the Greek "Iesous" literally. So we ended up with "Iesu" in Latin, which when the letter "J" came into English, became Jesu. The "s" was added on later.
