Group circulates 'homosexual hands off Poland' petition

A pro-family group is expressing solidarity with the Polish government and its efforts to protect traditional family values. The head of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, in Warsaw for an international pro-family gathering, believes pro-family forces have the ability to defeat the homosexual rights movement in Europe.



The European Parliament recently condemned the Polish government, accusing it of "hate speech" and "homophobia" and calling for an inquiry into what it describes as "the emerging climate of racist, xenophobic and homophobic intolerance in Poland." The charge stems from Poland's desire to ban homosexual propaganda from its schools and keep "gay pride" parades out of its streets.

In response, the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, or C-FAM, has been circulating a petition supporting Poland's stance against the "radical homosexual movement." C-FAM president Austin Ruse says he will deliver the petition to members of the Polish government tonight in Warsaw, site of the World Congress of Families IV.

"The radicals try to say that Poland is isolated in its extreme views," Ruse explains, "and the purpose of the petition is to show Poland and others that, first of all, their views are not extreme and, secondly, that Poland is not isolated. We anticipate delivering a petition with about 10,000 signatures from all over the world."

The C-FAM president sites past victories that he believes demonstrate the battle against anti-family "radicals" can be won.

"At the United Nations we've stopped them from making abortion a universally recognized human right, we've stopped them ... from redefining the family, [and] we've stopped them ... from redefining gender," he shares. "And now we just have to turn our attention to the European Parliament."

About 3,000 people, including policymakers, parliamentarians, and pro-family activists are gathering in Poland's capital for World Congress of Families IV, which begins Friday morning. Ruse is among dozens of featured speakers at the three-day conference.
