Rockford Red Cross office used to distribute Mexican 'matricula' cards

An immigration-reform activist says an Illinois branch of the American Red Cross should be taken to task for allowing the Mexican government to use its office to pass out consular identification cards to illegal aliens in the community. Last year, officials with the Mexican Consulate in Chicago used the public library in Rockford to issue "matricula consular" cards to foreign nationals in the area so they wouldn't have to make the 90-mile trip to the Windy City.

Recently, the mobile Mexican Consulate returned to Rockford, this time setting up shop at the local Red Cross office. Susan Tully of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) says she is appalled that a private charity like the Red Cross is helping a foreign government make a mockery of U.S. immigration laws.

"The American Red Cross in Rockford, Illinois, opened their office to be used by the Mexican Consulate to distribute Mexican 'matricula' cards," Tully notes. "And, of course, their reason for doing it is, they said, there are people in need up here -- desperate need -- of having identification," she says. "This is bogus."

American citizens who are outraged at the Red Cross should take appropriate action, Tully advises. "We continue to see American charities who are not supposed to be involved in political issues, and for the American Red Cross in Rockford, Illinois, to open their doors to a foreign government is in every sense and way a political issue," she says.

"The American public should stop supporting the American Red Cross if they're going to continue to aid and abet illegal aliens," the FAIR spokeswoman asserts. "Those are the only people in the United States who would need Mexican matricula cards," she says.

Unfortunately, Tully adds, Illinois is one of the worst states in the U.S. when it comes to facilitating illegal alien lawbreakers.

Due to misappropriation of funds, I don't contribute to the Red Cross.  However, the American public should be advised of this travesty.  Why hasn't the mainstream media mentioned this?

Because the mainstream media wants more of this type of thing.
