I would have voted for grape juice if it didn't have "only" tagged a the end of it. I don't think it matters what it is. It's just symbolic anyways (do this in remembrance of Me - not do this to Me). But I would stay away from alcohol. Stumbling block reasons of course.Title: Re:Communion Grapes Post by: Tibby on October 20, 2003, 05:41:48 PM I voted Grape juice or Wine. I don’t think it matters, within reason. I’d have to protest if someone wanted to BBQ sauce or something else off the wall. KOOL-AID! Personally, I’d prefer Wine, for biblical accuracy, but I really don’t think is matters. God honors it either way.
How will a single slip of 2 proof wine be a stumbling block? Title: Re:Communion Grapes Post by: Mr. 5020 on October 21, 2003, 11:24:00 PM I voted Grape juice or Wine. Since I'm not sure what "2 proof" wine is (due to my lack of knowledge in that grocery aisle), I may give a "out in left field" answer, but I've known many people who won't participate in "alcoholic" communion (for lack of better term) because they were an alcoholic bfore their salvation. How will a single slip of 2 proof wine be a stumbling block? Title: Re:Communion Grapes Post by: Tibby on October 22, 2003, 06:06:44 PM That has always been an issue before. But from the people I’ve talked to, who where finally talked into it, that small amount of wine had no effect in there clean life style.
lol, I learned about proof in Middle School health class :D Proof is a way of measuring alcohol content. I believe proof is twice the percentage. For example, Nyquil has 10-20% alcohol in it, so it would have a proof of 20-40. That 2 proof was gross under exaggeration for effect. Most communion wine has a 10-15% alcohol level. Anyways, that is, by hard drink standards, hardly anything. Not in compared to the 100+ proof these reformed drunks would drink. But, not drinking wine is fine any way you look at it. From the Symbolic aspect, exact scriptural accuracy isn’t required for symbolism. From the transubstantiation aspect, the essence can be gained by either bread or the wine. On the bright side, because of the beliefs of a former pastor, my churches gets some Charismatic nuts from time to time. I like to think of wine as a nutty-protestant-Pentecostal repellant. ;D lol j/k Title: Re:Communion Grapes Post by: Forrest on October 22, 2003, 10:38:01 PM I picked " Wine only"
MT 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed [it], and brake [it], and gave [it] to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. :27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave [it] to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; Title: Communion Grapes Post by: Brother Love on October 23, 2003, 09:40:12 AM I Voted Wine Only
