Title: MSNBC poll on Islam Post by: Shammu on April 24, 2007, 08:22:28 PM MSNBC poll on Islam
The analysis here is whitewashed, this is an MSNBC poll after all, but I thought this poll of international Muslim sentiment was insightful Quote NEW YORK - More than 70 percent of Egyptians, Pakistanis, Indonesians and Moroccans believe the United States is trying to weaken and divide the Islamic world, according to a poll released on Tuesday. The survey by WorldPublicOpinion.org also showed more than 40 percent thought weakening and dividing the Muslim world was the primary goal of the U.S.-led war on terrorism, while only 12 percent believed Washington’s aim was to protect the United States from attack. MSNBC poll on Islam (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18290306/) A few quick things from this...this "result" Quote But 60 percent said suicide bombings were never justified and 67 percent believed Islam was opposed to attacks against civilians. This is NOT reassuring at all, what it's saying is that 40 percent think suicide bombings are at least sometimes justified. Talk about cultural differences. Quote “On average less than one in four believes al-Qaida was responsible for Sept. 11 attacks. Pakistanis are the most skeptical — only 3 percent think al-Qaida did it,” said WorldPublicOpinion.org. “There is no consensus about who is responsible for the attacks on New York and Washington; the most common answer is ’don’t know.' Here it comes, I'm going to get cynical here, bet the most common answer is "don't care". Quote More than half believed al-Qaida’s goals included achieving a strict application of sharia law in every Islamic country, with more than 70 percent agreeing with that aim. This is simply devastating.
