Media analyst warns of growing 'left-wing' effort to silence conservative broadcasters

A media watchdog says liberals -- among them people like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and some Democrats in Congress -- want to reinstate the supposed "Fairness Doctrine" so they can "intimidate and silence" conservative broadcasters on radio and television.



Liberals in Congress have introduced the Media Ownership Reform Act (MORA), which would reinstate the FCC's Fairness Doctrine -- a regulation that requires that all views be given equal time on radio. The Free Congress Foundation recently held a forum on the implications of a possible return of that Federal Communications Commission policy.

Among the panelists was Cliff Kincaid, editor of the Accuracy in Media (AIM) Report. He says the recent firing of radio talk-show host Don Imus has prompted some "left-wingers" to call for conservative broadcasters like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly to also be taken off the air.

"Make no mistake about it," said Kincaid, addressing the forum audience," this campaign is all about censorship. [It's] about acquiring the means, on a national basis, to manipulate the media and manage the editorial content, not just on radio but TV, using the federal government for that purpose." He also warned it is possible for a Democratic-controlled FCC to re-impose a Fairness Doctrine on its own without congressional approval.

Kincaid contends that efforts by Jackson and Sharpton to purportedly clean up the public airwaves by re-enactment and enforcement of the Fairness Doctrine may lead to the censorship of conservative broadcasters.

"Led by Sharpton, the new hero of this media-reform movement, the political left has tasted blood in the Imus affair," the AIM Report editor stated. "Conservative media personalities -- already found guilty of racism, sexism, homophobia, and other sins -- will be standing in line to be pilloried, probably before a congressional panel."

It is fortunate, adds Kincaid, that not all liberals support the elevation of Al Sharpton to the position of "the new Democratic obscenity cop."

Yeah and he was on a show the other night and trying to say how he has fought equally for anyones ideas...left or right.

He is about as far left as a person can go. His history of violence, prejudicial statements and general politics speaks for itself.
