Democrats' budget plan under attack for record tax hikes

A South Carolina congressman says the Democrats' budget proposal for fiscal year 2008 is worse than a traditional tax and spend package.

House Budget Committee chairman John Spratt of South Carolina says the $2.9 trillion budget proposal "shows that Democrats are fiscally responsible, can budget," and "are charting a new course for America." The plan lets President Bush's tax cuts expire in 2010 and spends billions more than the Bush administration requested on entitlements.

But Congressman Joe Wilson (R-South Carolina) says the Democrats' program would be a $392 billion tax increase -- the largest in American history.

"The ability of small businesses to have funds to grow the economy, [as well as the ability of] the private sector to create jobs ... will be chilled," says Wilson, "it will be strained."

He adds that he is "sadly" confident that the number of jobs will decrease under the Democratic plan. "I think the net consequence is actually that they will have to increase taxes even more," says the South Carolina lawmaker.

Wilson says President Bush's tax cuts need to remain intact because they have yielded economic growth and the creation of nearly seven million jobs.

Those of America that the Democrats into office asked for it so here it comes. You may as well have given them a signature card for your bank accounts.
