to ignore Christianity Religious heritage of Europe to be left out of new document The Berlin Declaration-- a statement that will be released on March 25 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Rome treaty that formed the basis for the European Union-- will not mention the Christian heritage of the European community, the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita reports. Polish government representatives, who had pressed for an explicit recognition of the Christian contributions to European history, are sorely disappointed by the omission, Rzeczpospolita reports. The Polish delegates were disappointed that their effort was opposed by Germany and France. Earlier this month the speaker of the German parliament, Norbert Lammer, agreed with this Polish counterpart Marek Jurek that the Berlin Declaration should acknowledge Christianity. Lammer’s view evidently did not sway German policy. Lammer’s view evidently did not sway German policy. Sorry to hear this....I saw a headline where the Pope has denounced this. I'm not Catholic but it's good for him to speak up about this. |
