Title: Faith; Things hoped for not yet seen
Post by: missionary4him on February 10, 2007, 12:18:49 AM
Hi Everyone;

Well, I just realized that I have a problem with faith...  :-\I didn't even know it. I'll share.
My husband will go to a store like Sam's club or something and see something that he would like to have but is out of our price range. He'll come home and say oh honey; you've got to come back with me and check this out. Well, knowing we can't possibly get it. I always say no. I don't window shop or plan hope for things I can't afford. That's just not me; These are just examples but after many years of this; my husband finally said to me "honey you have to learn to hope for things." Well this started a whole thing between me and God. I also had someone pray with me and they kind of said something during the prayer (could have been from the Lord) but I immediately dismissed it because, I just can't see it happening.
 ???
Well, I know scripture; I I know God can do anything. but, I'm not sure why I feel this way. it's almost like I don't let my hopes get up for something I just don't think will happen. Well I'd love to talk about faith and just have some conversation with others about it and try to grow...

I'm so thankful I found this board.

Rom 8:24  For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Rom 8:25  But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

This is the greatest hope ... the hope of waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

All too often people set their eyes on material things, hoping for earthly things, earthly riches. Is it totally wrong to do this? Only when that becomes our main focal point in this fleshly life. God did not promise us worldly riches but He did promise us heavenly riches. Which is the better hope .. that which is temporary or that which is eternal? This is not to say that we should not have hope for those things that we really need while here on earth.

The Lord will provide those things that we have a need for. Trusting in Him to do so is having faith in Him. Where is our next meal coming from? Where is the money coming from to pay our bills? However to go get a $5000.00 plasma TV or an extravagant B-B-Que grill when the finances are not there is not hope in the right things and would be "asking amiss" putting our hope in our lusts for worldly things.

oh, ya know I didn't realize how my email would sound so materialistic until I read your response; Pastor Roger.

Ummm I was refering to a baby... She prayed about a baby for us and well I gave up on that over four years ago, I just thought I'd use the examples of the minor things to show that I realized I give up; What is true faith. When man says no believing God says yes. Even like Abraham who never saw the promise. But, it still happened.

Thanks for your comments. ;D

That does sound better...cause here I was thinking your husband had his eye on the 52 inch plasma screens down at Sams :)

The one thing that we must always remember is that we are to leave it all with God.  There is nothing  that we have that is not His or given to us by Him.  That includes our children or those He has placed in our care.

PR was following the thread and it was heading towards materialistic things such as the TV or other stuff.  And those can get in our way of walking with God alot easier than other things.  What you are talking about is sharing your life with a child.  And you can get into a pit in which you are asking God why can we not have a baby, God why will you not let us have one? etc. etc.  And as soon as you start to ask you are removing trust from God.  We should not ask why but what.  The Lords prayer that we all have in our Bible states "thy will be done" it is God's will and we should not question why.  The Bible tells us why "all things are for the benifit of good".  But we should be asking what it is that the Lord would have us to do.

It could be that the Lord has other plans for you and your spouse.  It could be that there is a child yet unborn that will need you for it's parents and pull it from a Godless country.  There are many many reasons why it could be.  And we will never know.  But what we must always focus on is what it is that God would want us to do.  And to remember that all things work in God's time and not ours.

Don't know if it helps.  But I will be praying for you all and that God will show you what direction He wants you to go in.
